2 To support these many changes and the undergraduate institutional memory at the executive officer level, the chapter has changed five officer positions to 12-month terms: President, Chaplain, Vice President-Finance, Vice President-Recruitment, and Vice President-Membership Development. The last two officer elections are staggered opposite the other three by one semester, assuring at least two to three returning exec officers each semester. Our volunteers successfully formed an 11-member Illinois Alpha Board of Advisors (BOA). The BOA is led by former undergraduate Vice President of Recruitment and President Ryan Hamrick '16. Ryan and I were the lead faculty for the Carlson Leadership Academy undergraduate president's track for the third consecutive year running this past February at the Westin Lombard. Ryan is one of the best new volunteers that we've had the honor to serve with. He received the New Volunteer of the Year honor at the 2018 Carlson Leadership Academy. Starting this spring, the AVC will bring in Illinois Alpha alumni "ComeBack" speakers each semester to speak with the Exec and chapter about their professional journey, connections they've made, and how their Illinois Alpha undergraduate leadership experience successfully maps to their workplace opportunities and wins. This is a new idea to raise both the visibility and cachet of Illinois Alpha exec leadership opportunities and counter the recent lack of undergraduate interest in these chapter and life leadership positions. • Andrew Harvell '15 works for the Walt Disney Corporation and flew in from Los Angeles to meet with both the exec and chapter. The undergraduates had rave reviews on his visit and discussions. • Cameron Blaydes '12 works for Bain Management and is completing his last semester at Harvard Business School. He will fly in this fall. As validated by the phenomenal undergraduate feedback received over Andrew's visit, we expect big benefits from this beta program and will be recruiting recent alumni who have served on exec going forward. This Illinois Alpha volunteer team impresses me and provides a positive and lasting mentoring and consultative experience for the undergraduates at many of the programming events that it designs/executes on a semesterly basis. • Strategy (early semester, designed and led by Jamieson Gray '12, Ryan Hamrick '16, and Cameron Blaydes '12) • Branding and Goalsetting (early semester) •· Mid-semester Progress-Against-Plan (mid-semester) • End-of-semester Progress-Against-Plan (end of semester) • Officer Transition (end of semester) Please, let's continue our investment in our undergraduates and return Illinois Alpha to its tradition of a high-performing and leading organization. Fraternally, D. Shawn Dalgleish '81 Illinois Alpha Chapter Counselor STEADY PROGRESS (Continued from page 1) T he Alumni and Volunteer Corporation Operational Excellence award recognizes an Alumni and Volunteer Corporation that has shown outstanding service with tangible results to an undergraduate chapter over the previous calendar year and/or excelled in one of the four core areas: 1. Mentoring Undergraduates 2. AVC Cultivation 3. Asset Management 4. Corporate Health This year, Illinois Alpha Alumni and Volunteer Corporation received the Operational Excellence Award. The following is the text of the presentation for this award: This AVC has spent a significant amount of time and energy helping the undergraduates navigate the Fraternity's new substance-free policy. The chapter has recently expanded its mentorship committee, the Board of Advisors, helping chapter officers succeed in their role and make a culture change on a difficult campus. The volunteers have taken the challenges that confront the chapter and turned them into opportunities to make SigEp stand out and be even more of a leader on campus. Despite a decline in membership, the volunteers are ready to provide perspective and rebuild the chapter's manpower. For their success in mentoring undergraduates, we present this AVC Excellence Award to Illinois Alpha AVC at the University of Illinois!
