publishers note Spring Memories I t is hard to believe how time flies. It is almost spring time again. Spring brings all kinds of memories for me. Some memories are good and some are not so good. Our son, Bob, died on March 2, 2006, but my memory is not all bad from that time in our life. His death has strengthened my familys faith in Christ and we know we will see Bob again because he was a believer. Also, on the day of his funeral a large group of family and friends went to Chapel Hill for a celebration at the Lodge, where Bob was a member when he was a student at Chapel Hill. We watched Carolina freshman Tyler Hansbrough control Duke in order for the Tar Heels to upset the Blue Devils. Bob loved his Tar Heels. As the game was coming to an end, the crowd of about 50 of Bobs friends were cheering Bob, Bob, Bob! a great memory on an otherwise sad day. Spring also brings the ACC basketball tournament and the start of March Madness, for all you basketball fans. A group of friends gather at my house on ACC Friday each year to watch the games and eat barbecue. It is a good time to see people we dont see but once a year. The spring time brings the Masters Golf tournament, which is in April and shows the beauty of Gods creation with all the dogwoods and azaleas in bloom. It is the time of the year for me to get my bike back out and start riding again and enjoying the warm weather and new growth in Fayetteville. When I was in high school spring was a time to remember the beach and get ready for school to come to an end. Most of us went to the Azalea festival in Wilmington but never saw the festival. It was just an excuse to party and be at the beach, either Carolina or Wrightsville Beach. Sandee and I were at the Oceanic restaurant recently listening as our grandsons scout troop heard a presentation about the revitalization of Crystal Pier. She and I remembered an Azalea Festival weekend a long time ago when the Pavilion was there instead of the Oceanic restaurant good memories of our age of innocence and ignorance. This spring issue we are recognizing women in business in Fayetteville. There are many women who work hard and contribute to the growth of our local economy. Most importantly, spring is when we celebrate the event that changed the world 2000 years ago, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Happy spring to you! Correction: The information printed for Village Green in the Jan/Feb issue was incorrect. It is not a specialized Alzheimer's unit. 10 | March/April 2013
