L ast year, a young woman invited Deborah Bartels Snead '67 out to lunch. That woman was Rory Fry, who worked with the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation and wanted to discuss It's Our House! The Campaign for 808 Richmond. Deborah thoroughly enjoyed their conversation, and seeing plans for the house renovation brought back many wonderful memories; this inspired Deborah to make a generous contribution to the campaign. "My husband, Leon, and I are fortunate enough to have resources to support projects and organizations that are special to us," she said. "The Alpha Delta chapter of Gamma Phi Beta is an organization that is truly special to me." ΓΦΒ Is for Life After attending recruitment events at all sororities at Mizzou, Deborah found that she truly felt at home with the sisters at 808 Richmond; she pledged during the fall of her sophomore year. To this day, Deborah is a Life Loyal member of ΓΦΒ and a member of the Washington, D.C., alumnae chapter. Having been inspired by the love and dedication of her Alumnae Advisors, she served as the Alumnae Advisor for Beta Beta Chapter at the University of Maryland. "I've stayed involved because whenever I meet a Gamma Phi, there is that feeling of friendship that I experienced when I pledged." Life Since Alpha Delta Deborah graduated with a B.S. in business and public administration from Mizzou and years later earned a master's in public policy from the University of Maryland. She worked in local government in Montgomery County, Maryland, for 32 years, beginning as an auditor in the finance department and going on to hold several positions in both the executive and legislative branches. In her retirement she has served as treasurer on many boards of directors, including the Welcome to Washington International Club, Smithsonian Women's Committee, and Master Chorale of Washington. "Yes, serving on boards is work, but there are perks—including behind the scenes museum tours and international conferences!"
