8A Daily News – Friday, February 22, 2013 Metteer SERRF goes pigskin crazy Education in Tehama County KEEP ON LEARNING Antelope registration Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten registration at the Antelope School District will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 27, at the Antelope School Office. If your child turns 5 years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2013, you may register them for Kindergarten. If your child turns 5 years-old between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2 2013, you may register them for Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Please bring the following items: residential verification, birth certificate and Immunizations. If you have any questions, call 527-1272 Elks Students of the Quarter Courtesy photo The Elks were honored on Tuesday, Feb. 5, to recognize the students of the quarter for the first school quarter of 2013. The students are given a check and certificate for their efforts and a buffet dinner.The dinners are prepared by the Emblem Club ladies and funded by the Elks. The students are accompanied by their friends and family and a school representative. The representatives speak about the students accomplishments and the student speaks of their goals for their future. Twins rule at bee Rancho Tehama honors leaders Courtesy photo Tillie Louisell, Seth Moughan and Katie Louisell celebrate their spelling bee victories. Bidwell Elementary School held its annual Spelling Bee Jan. 29. There were 24 competitors from the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. This bee was unique in that it had two sets of siblings competing against each other — Anna Hermanson, a fourth grader and sixth grade brother Johnny as well as fifth grade twins Katie and Tillie Louisell. The bee turned out to be the longest, going 23 rounds. It came down to a battle between the Louisell twins. Katie finally took first place winning with the 190th word — P-R-E-P-OS-T-E-R-O-U-S. Tillie came in second place and fourth grader, Seth Moughan was third. Katie will go on to Redding in March where she will represent Bidwell School in her quest to make it to Washington, D.C. for the National Spelling Bee in May. Funds are raised through the Rancho Tehama Thrift Store for various activities including Fun 4 Kids, Junior Giants Baseball, Cooking for Kids, Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Autumn BBQ, and the Red Neck Duck Derby. In addition to sponsoring local activities, the group is working towards building a recreation/community emergency evacuation center in Rancho Tehama.
