A s a longtime Sigma Chapter volunteer and current chapter advisor, Jill Remsberg McGee '79 is a firm believer that "the only way Sigma Chapter can thrive is through alumnae involvement." She thoroughly enjoys mentoring the young women of Gamma Phi Beta at KU, showing them that Sigma Chapter provides opportunities to grow and is a safe place to make mistakes and still be loved, just as it was for her. Jill is a third-generation Sigma Chapter member, following in the footsteps of her mother, Sandy Garver Remsberg '57, and grandmother, Lois Moon Garver '30. "I had high expectations of the chapter as I went through recruitment, and the young women I met during that week did not disappoint!" Feeling at home just walking through the chapter house door, Jill was also impressed with the "genuinely kind and interesting" members she met before she ultimately decided to pledge Gamma Phi Beta. Jill served Sigma as pledge class secretary, social chairman, and recruitment chairman while studying for degrees in human biology and business. Her experience in the chapter was undoubtedly positive. "I gained so much confidence, leadership experience, and more than anything, I made such great friends." Her fondest memories include bonding during the pledge class walkout, living in the chapter house for a week as a freshman, and building excitement for recruitment each year. Drawing upon the lessons learned in Sigma Chapter, Jill earned a master's degree in health care administration from the University of Minnesota and went on to a successful career. "My experiences in Sigma organizing and solving problems with groups of young women, leading various committees, and participating on executive council were invaluable." With plans to retire in May as the Director of Admissions and Development for St. Paul's Episcopal Day School, Jill looks forward to "relearning the game of golf and picking up a few neglected house renovation projects." She and her husband, Tom, enjoy traveling with their family, sons Michael and Patrick and daughter Jackie. Although she is busy with family and work, Jill dedicates her time to guiding collegians and imparting the knowledge she has gained. She encourages all alumnae to support the chapter in some way. "The viability of Sigma Chapter is due to the involvement and expertise of volunteers, their long-term thought process, and dedication to a long-term vision by alumnae. The student members need support and perspective that only alumnae can bring to the organization." Jill can be contacted at mcgeefam1@gmail.com.
