By YM GYSGT. GIANCARLO NANDINO Special to the DN The Young Marine program impacts Americas future by teaching boys and girls ages 8-18 to live and promote a healthy drug-free lifestyle. The group meets twice a month and learn about respect, integrity, honor, and leadership, but we also have fun doing so. We have the support of the Marine Corps League and many of our local veterans. Some of us might choose to serve in our armed forces later in life but this is not the programs goal. This program is not a military 90 years recruiting tool. During the summer, we have the opportunity to travel and attend leadership academies and summer camps with other Young Marines across the nation. On Feb. 2, the Tehama County Young Marines joined other units in the state on the steps of the California State Capitol to recognize our accomplishments during Red Ribbon Week, which we celebrate every year on the final week of Octo- ber. If you would like your children or young adults to be a part of this amazing group, attend the upcoming Boot Camp that will take place in the Sacramento Discovery Center the first week of April.
