W hen I discovered Ms. Angelou's reflection on home, I immediately thought of Gamma Phi and the role our chapter home played for me during my college years. I'm so grateful for my sisters who cultivated a safe space that nurtured and guided me as I focused on the next steps of my journey. And it is such an honor to work with my fellow board members to ensure this sense of home continues with our sisters today. As we move further into 2019 and all the possibilities of the new year, Pi Chapter's Affiliated Housing Corporation (AHC) welcomed new collegiate members to the team. Chapter President Chloe Hardin '16, Financial Vice President Olivia Coffey '17, and Facilities Manager Brenna Micek '17 exemplify the future of Gamma Phi Beta with a passion for service, leadership, and preserving the traditions of our sisterhood. We're grateful for their energy and commitment! I wanted to share a few changes for AHC. We will welcome two new members this spring, Kim Cuda '78 and Bethany Wood '09. We're grateful for their service! They will step into the shoes of outgoing board members Julie Doolittle '78 and Karen Gustin '80. We thank both of them for their dedication to Pi Chapter over the years. We continue to make good progress on our home projects. We successfully replaced many of the upstairs windows over winter break, and AHC will finalize the projects planned for this summer in the next few weeks. This may include significant work on the heating and cooling systems. As you reflect on your Gamma Phi home, I hope you will consider how you may serve the next generation of outstanding women that will walk through these doors. Here are a few ways you may consider helping Pi Chapter: 1. Stay in Touch - Complete and return the bio form sent a few weeks ago. One of our highest priorities is staying connected. 2. Attend the Pi Chapter Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 14, at 5 pm. We'd love to see you and give you a tour! 3. Contribute – Our beautiful collegiate home requires continuing investment so that we can create a safe place for our sisters. Please send your gifts to: P.O. Box 22770, Lincoln, NE 68542-2770. 4. Serve – We are always in need of committed volunteers to serve on AHC, as an advisor to the chapter leadership, as a volunteer at recruitment, or simply by writing a letter of recommendation for a potential member. Thank you for your continued dedication to Pi Chapter, and we hope to see you soon! "The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned." -Maya Angelou Moonstruck Karen Gustin '80 Reflects on Her Time with Pi Chapter as a Member and an Advisor K aren Gustin '80 went through recruitment as a legacy to three houses: Alpha Phi, Kappa Delta, and Gamma Phi Beta. Her sister, Lisa Gustin '78, was in Pi Chapter during this time, and Karen had met many of her friends and loved all of them. "There was no question that if Gamma Phi was right for Lisa, it was right for me," Karen said. "Being in the house with my sister was something for which I am very thankful. To be biological sisters and share our sorority sisterhood is very special." Karen made many special memories during her time with Pi Chapter and learned many lessons that she still carries with her today. (Continued on page 3)
