"It's not busy at all, but it appealed to us," he said. He smiled, recalling how they didn't buy the painting when they saw it, then later wished they had. When they got back home to Fayetteville, Jesse called the gallery. e shop curator sent the painting on before Jesse had even paid. "She didn't know me from Adam," he said, laughing. C l a s s i c C o m f o r t Plush carpeting and upholstery greet guests in his cozy den. e walls offer a glimpse into the story of Jesse and Irene's happy life together – told through art, of course. Jesse's favorite piece in the room is a small painting of children running through the rain. "It just sorta makes you smile," he said. It's no wonder the piece appeals to Jesse, now a great-grandfather to Carlyle, "Lyle" for short. He's happy to talk about his two daughters, Pamela and Susan, and their accomplishments and about his grandchildren. Portraits of grandchildren ompson and Jessica are displayed prominently in the living room. And a bronze statue of Jessica as a girl stands in the back yard. Jesse's daughter Susan, a noted interior designer in Raleigh, helps keep his home updated. Paint has been freshened, wallpaper replaced and upholstery refinished but Jesse's choices have staying power. Smartly dressed in a pressed striped oxford shirt, he cares nothing for trend. "I just pick what I like," he said.
