20 • 2019 Dogwood Festival Happy to be a part of downtown Siloam! We look forward to giving you an authentic Colombian experience! 117 South Broadway • Siloam SpringS • (757) 325-7562 an authentic colombian cafe Celebration is in the air for the Siloam Springs Museum as well as for the Dogwood Festival. On March 30, the Siloam Springs Museum held a ribbon cutting to celebrate their grand re-opening after a year of renovations. The museum closed in Spring of 2018 to begin a complete renovation of the interior. The museum has been in their current building at 112 North Maxwell Street since 1972. According to Director of Collections and Research Don Warden "These renovations totally transformed the interior of the building. We were closed almost a year for all that, since last April, and we are feeling brand spanking new." The Museum hours are Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00pm. Don explained they have four more exhibits to set up and will have events planned for each; the next exhibit to be set up is Industries of Siloam Springs and is funded by a grant from the L-Z-Boy Foundation. This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of the Museum's incorporation in November of 1969. So it makes sense another exhibit in the works is the 50th Anniversary, highlighting items from the collection and changes to the Siloam Springs Museum over the years. Another upcoming event is Historic churches of Siloam Springs lecture, on April 20, lead by Don Warden, where he will discuss church buildings that have been around prior to 1950 and how they have been used over time. Enter the Siloam Springs Dogwood Festival, which was started in 1975, by a group of residents who felt Siloam Springs needed some attention. One of those who helped get the festival started is now well-known artist Troy Anderson, who was the chairman in 1975. The museum has had Troy Anderson's work in exhibits throughout time including painting, prints, and sculptures; something he has been doing for many years but he is doing more in recent years. "He did a program March 23 on lost wax techniques for casting sculptures and this was the first of our lecture series" stated Don. Troy's work will be on display through April 20. For Dogwood Festival weekend on April 27, there will be a Pastel Demonstration by Charles Peer, local notable artist and retired professor from John Brown University. The Exhibit will be open from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday for a meet and greet. On Saturday, April 27, Charles will have exciting things are happening all over Siloam Springs The Siloam Springs Museum at 112 North Maxwell St. has been preserving the history, celebrating the culture, and participating in the community of Siloam Springs, Arkansas since 1969.
