Not long ago Nathan Reed of the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce, Kelsey Howard of Main Street and Holland Hayden from the City of Siloam Springs faced a collective problem. "We had a tourism committee for about 12 years," Nathan, vice president of economic development for the chamber, said. "The committee always wanted a way to market the community and get our information out to the public. We never really had a good way to do that." Soon the three started looking at options. "We looked at creating an app," he explained. "We looked at a Facebook page and all of the social media options. We landed on a website because it gave us the most flexibility to put a lot of information about the community." Soon DiscoverSiloam.com, was born. The site, a digital repository of all things Siloam Springs, was filled with places to go, things to do, spots to eat and shop, and a calendar of local events and entertainment opportunities. "We partnered with a local company called Blogs for Brands," Nathan explained. "They built the web site and did everything with us. It's pretty cool that we have done it and did not go outside of Siloam Springs for any part of it. This gives an opportunity to market our events to locals and tourists alike." The site, a cooperative effort between the chamber, city and Main Street organization offers its visitors a complete rundown of local events and activities. It is a resource for locals and visitors, too. "We have a kayak park," Nathan noted with pride. "It is the only one in the entire state of Arkansas. It's all engineered rapids. We have a beautiful stretch of the Illinois River. We are improving City Lake Park. Every month it seems like there is Discover Siloam: Community website markets events to locals and visitors Visit DiscoverSiloam.com to learn about all the city has to offer.
