Our annual coming- out party – we call it the Dogwood Festival – is set for the last full weekend in April; this year the dates are April 26, 27, 28. Blooming dogwood trees may be optional but food and good times are not. Folks have found that this is a great way to transition from jackets to shorts and t-shirts – and we have the shirts. We will have plenty of special festival t-shirts with the 45th annual theme logo, suitable for wearing all summer. Has it really been 45 years? Change is everywhere – not just in the trees and grass, but all over our hometown. Here are a few suggestions for things to do while in Siloam Springs for the festival: • Visit the kayak park, four miles south of town on a paved road; free admission for kayaking, canoeing, and tubing; • Head for the Sager Creek Mountain Bike Trail, which winds behind the John Brown University campus and includes five miles of varying difficulty level trails; • Go north of town to the City Lake area, where we are working on major improvements to bring new trails, a birder blind, bike park, fishing dock, and disc golf; • Notice the site of our newest park- Memorial Park -on Mt. Olive Street, which will feature a splash pad, farmer's market area, outdoor amphitheater, landscaped walking paths, concession stand and rest rooms, and our impressive Fallen Soldiers memorial; • Walk around our historic downtown, featuring quaint little shops, restaurants, and a thriving hub of locally-owned and operated businesses. Be sure to stop by our newly renovated and energized Museum on Maxwell street. At the festival, come by our information booth, for a map of the festival attractions and the city, and to get your t-shirt. Plan to sit for a while and listen to the entertainment – several exciting new musical groups are coming this year - and then chow down in the Food Court. Ah, festival food… you can enjoy specialty foods you just can't find anywhere the rest of the year. Go ahead, it's only once a year… If you need information or assistance, just find one of our folks with "volunteer" on the back of their t-shirt. They help plan and execute our festival, and represent hundreds of volunteers who have helped make the Dogwood Festival one of the best for 45 years. Proof: the festival was awarded an "ALFiE" as first runner-up in 2018 by the Arkansas Festivals and Events Association. Have fun! 45th Dogwood Festival – A Sure Sign of Spring!
