National Touring Bands Rock the ‘Ville a STAFF REPORT On Saturday, June 19, The Rock Shop will welcome two national touring bands to its stage as Framing Hanley and The Veer Union Rock the ‘Ville. Framing Hanley is a five-piece outfit from Nashville, Tenn., and released its first studio album in August 2007. The band is best known for its songs “Hear Me Now” and “Lollipop.” The band formed when lead singer and songwriter Kenneth Nixon, guitar- ists Tim and Brandon, bassist Luke and drummer Chris came together in Nashville in 2005. It didn’t take the band long to garner a strong fan following in Music City, and they quickly posted demos on the Internet. In November 2006, the demos were discovered by Brett Hestla, former Creed bassist and frontman of Dark New Day. Hestla helped the band record a two-song demo in his Florida studio that captured the attention of Jeff Hanson (Creed, Sevendust, Paramore) and his record label Silent Majority Group. In early November of Framing Hanley will be at the Rock Shop on June 19. The Rock Shop will feature The Veer Union on June 19 as it brings more national touring bands to Fayetteville. 2009, Framing Hanley entered the studio to start working on the sophomore record, A Promise to Burn. In a recent interview with alternative addiction.com, lead singer Kenneth Nixon noted that “The album tells a story that a lot of us have been through, where you have to have every- thing taken away from you before you can be humbled and know how lucky you are. It’s sad that it’s like that, but it’s true in a lot of people’s cases.” Nixon says the band has a lot to prove with the new album, foremost that the band is more than just that rock band that covered Lil Wayne’s song “Lollipop.” “Three years later when one song that they are remembering you for is a cover song, it kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth,” said Nixon. “That song did a lot of things for our band, but it was really just something that we were doing for fun.” The band released the new album A Promise to Burn this month, along with a bonus DVD containing footage of the band recording the album in studio. The first single “You Stupid Girl” is available on iTunes and all digital retailers now. The band took its name from Ashley Hanley, a photographer, and the drummer’s girlfriend. Hanley passed away in 2006. The Veer Union is a Canadian alternative rock/post-grunge band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The band was formed in 2004 by Crispin Earl and Eric Schraeder. After touring with bands like Hinder, Theory of a Deadman, Seether and Black Stone Cherry, the band signed a record deal with Universal Motown Records. The band released its debut album, Against the Grain, on April 21, 2009. Against the Grain has reached number 32 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers, and its first single, “Seasons”, has reached number 10 on Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, number 16 on the Rock Songs chart and num- ber 30 on the Alternative Songs chart. “Seasons” was also the official theme song for WWE Backlash 2009, Pittsburgh Penguins, and has been used exten- sively on MLB Network’s coverage for the race to the postseason in 2009. Tickets for the show are $14 in advance and $16 at the door. For more information visit www.therockshoplive.com. 18 UCW MAY 26-JUNE 1, 2010 CHARLIE MIKE’S PUB 195 Star Point Road • 826-6453 Tues.
