Chairmansspeaks peaks WOW-Two years sure go by fast. I believe, as we get older we move in a faster time zone than the youth. At least it seems that way. In the past two years we have ob- served our outstand- ing new president (Doug Peters) as he takes charge of our dynamic community. He came to us with a plethora of eco- nomic development experience and has used those skills very well. Business ssSpotlightSpotlight The Changing of the Guard Your Chamber has moved to the new loca- tion on Hay Street. Our staff has been refi ned and improved in many ways. Your chamber has helped to develop new business parks both civilian and military related. The staff has worked hard on issues related to BRAC and the upcoming moves that will be in place by next summer. New hotels and convention centers are in the planning stages. The downtown has never looked greater. The Con- vergent company has launched a major community investment program similar to Strike Force. This capital will be used to guide us through economic development for the next few years. Our public partners, the city, PWC and the county, have maintained their support in spite of trying economic times. My thanks to the very professional and hardworking staff that have made it all possible. I am also very proud of our new board of directors. They are a diverse cross- section of our community. They all bring some- thing to the table and their participation ensures our success. On July 1, Chris Bostock will be your new chair of the board. Chris has worked tirelessly throughout his tenure. So thanks for the help, the support, and thanks for the memories. AutoZone, Advance Auto and Pep Boys, three of the largest auto parts retailers in the United States, are among those receiving their inventory shipments from Dayco In December 2009, AutoZone awarded additional business to Dayco Products, LLC for their belts and hose products, creating an increase in volume of 5.1 million units for the Fayetteville Distribution Center. As shipments were set to begin on May 10, 2010, the Fayetteville Distribution Center added an additional 20 employees to meet the increase in business demand. While the addition of 20 new jobs may not be viewed as a major success by the majority of the com- munities population, it should be taken into account that while the rest of the nation continues to struggle with the current recession, and other states are facing the loss of more jobs due to outsourcing, the Fayetteville- Cumberland County existing industry sector is begin- ning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, and are driving their trucks right through it. As a result of the newly added Dayco employees, the following estimates are calculated as a means to defi ne the community impacts of job creation and con- It is estimated that the newly hired Dayco em- ployees would have a combined total of $225,176.00 in disposable income. As the disposable income is spent within local, privately owned business, the de- mand for goods and services at these establishments will see an increase. As a ripple eff ect of the disposable income spend- ing, these local, privately owned business will respond to the increase in demand by acquiring additional staff as well, creating an indirect impact of an additional 7.5 jobs within the immediate community.
