The 79-year-old Buss has spent time in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to the Times, which quoted Buss' son, Jim, Thursday saying his father was "doing fine." Several current and former Lakers players, including Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson, have visited Buss. Team spokesman John Black said the team has no plans to comment on Buss' health out of respect for the family's wishes. Buss spokesman Bob Steiner said information would have to come from the Lakers. "Dr. Jerry Buss, thinking about u & wish I could be there, get well soon," former Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal tweeted Thursday. "I cant wait 2 see u on 4/2/13 #LoveYou." The Lakers will retire O'Neal's No. 34 jersey on April 2. Buss has been hospitalized several times in recent years, including a stint last July for dehydration. He was treated for blood clots in his legs in December 2011. Lady Cards lose steam vs. Eagles By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor CORNING Corning High senior Bailey Jennings big night from behind the 3-point line couldnt stop the visiting West Valley Lady Eagles basketball team from playing homecoming night spoilers Friday as the Eagles held on in the second half to win 48-44. Jennings knocked down four 3-pointers on the night with three coming in the second half as Corning (14-10, 5-3 Northern Athletic League) tried to overcome a slow start that had it down 15-4 after the first quarter. The Lady Cards battled back to win the next two periods 14-10 and 11-7, respectively, and a timely Jennings 3 had Corning even with the Eagles (12-14, 2-6 Sac River League) at 32 with 6:43 left to play in the game. Jennings finished with 14 points. But West Valley rediscovered its rhythm and kept pace with Corning, which couldnt get over the hump to take a lead. The Eagles won the final frame 16-15 and closed out their season with a nonleague win. Corning, which was ranked third in Division IV according to playoff points recently released, now awaits its seeding going to the playoffs. The Cards Rachel Silva finished with 9 points, Marisa Vinson added 6, Gates Fears had 5 and both Emerie Eller and Shyanne Petty had 3. Keara Terras and Rachel Bentz had 2. BLACKHAWKS 4, SHARKS 1 Chicago beats visiting, sliding San Jose CHICAGO (AP) Marcus Kruger and Andrew Shaw scored during Chicago's strong second period, and the NHLleading Blackhawks beat the sliding San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Friday night for their fifth win in six games. Dave Bolland and Niklas Hjalmarsson also scored for the Blackhawks, who remain the league's only team without a regulation loss. Jamal Mayers had two assists and backup Ray Emery made 27 saves for his fourth win in four starts this season. Chicago's first home win since Jan. 27 against Detroit had a little bit of everything, including a rare fight between captains Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks and Joe Thornton of the Sharks. Toews skated up to Thornton with about 412 minutes left in the first period, jabbed him with his stick and then dropped his gloves. The star centers N.J. Each of the Blackhawks' first three goals came on rebounds, including an ugly gaffe by Niemi in the second period. Bolland skated toward the goal in the final minute of the first and let loose with a low shot that Niemi stopped with his right leg. But the deflection trickled off Niemi's left arm and Bolland tucked it into the open net while the veteran goalie frantically tried to find the puck. The Blackhawks increased the lead to 2-0 at 3:05 in the second, taking advantage when Niemi whiffed on Kruger's bouncing shot from just inside center ice. The Blackhawks (11-03) outshot the Sharks 17-8 in the second. The lone bright spot for San Jose was Kennedy's first goal since Oct. 22, 2011, against the New York Islanders.
