8A Daily News Saturday, February 16, 2013 Religion Faith Overcoming negativity Church news Intimacy in worship Local churches will be hosting a special worship event, Intimacy in Worship, March 8-9 featuring world renowned worship leaders Darren and Jessie Clarke. The public is invited to attend this free event. Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. the conference will begin at Risen King Community Church, 6100 Oasis Road in Redding. Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m. worship will be held at Bethel Church, 625 Luther Road in Red Bluff. For those wishing to attend a worship workshop for worship teams, vocalists and songwriters, there will be a training session with Darren and Jessie 10 a.m. to noon at the Red Bluff Vineyard, 738 Walnut St., Red Bluff. Registration is required for this workshop. Call the Vineyard office at 527-2449 to register. This event is being sponsored by Risen King Community Church, Redding, and Red Bluff churches Bethel Assembly of God, North Valley Baptist, Community Baptist, Nueva Vida Iglesias, First Church of God, Cornerstone Community Church of God and the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. The Clarkes were both born and raised in England but now live on the Central Coast of California. Their roots in worship began in England in their teens alongside influential worship leaders like Matt Redman and Graham Ord. These early days impacted them deeply giving them a heart for worship that would stay with them through the seasons. As young adults they migrated to these sunny shores and were instrumental in the birth of The Burn Service with fellow worship leader Ryan Delmore. This young adult ministry resulted in several Worship recordings with Vineyard Music. It was in these early days that Darren and Jessie wrote several worship songs used around the world today, the most well-known being "I Love Your Presence" that has over 15 versions on iTunes and over a million hits on YouTube. This also led to Darren producing a few records for Vineyard Music including Thousand Generations. In 2012 things evolved and they went full time with Clarke Lane Music their recording and music production studio. God started to give Darren and Jessie a fresh crop of worship songs for the church, and their song Your Love Endures is quickly spreading. At the heart of their philosophy of worship is the role of serving. &Worship Negativity is pervasive. It becomes so deeply rooted that we dont recognize it as lethal. Just one negative thought opens the door for satan to get a foothold in our lives. The more ground we give over to satan, the quicker negativity will become systemic. A negative person dwells in darkness, though without recognizing it as darkness. 1 John 1:6 says, "If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth." We must be on guard, lest negativity becomes a way of life. Negativity squeezes our thoughts into one narrow channel. It pulls us down into the vortex of unbelief. No one makes us negative. It is always a choice. This is a truth that we don't think about very often when we unexpectedly come face to face with adversity. It is so easy to blame. But negativity is a choice, not circumstantial. Prov. 23:7, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." We alone are responsible for our choices. No one makes us think a certain way. When we think negative thoughts, we become a negative person. Negativity has many roots. Buried offenses, unforgiveness, wrong perspective, spiritual dryness, passivity, prejudice, and unbelief are some examples. God provides scriptures relating to each of these roots that warn us to not give that ground over to satan. 1 Peter 5:8 says, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." It is satans design to devour us. Devour means to afflict, plague, bedevil, trouble, harrow, rack; consume, swallow up, overcome, or overwhelm. Where do your thoughts dwell? 1 Peter 5:9 gives us the right perPsalm 91:1 says, "He who spective when we meet dwells in the secret place adversity. All are welcome to gather at 7 p.m. on Sundays during Lent, Feb. 17 through March 24, at St. Peters Episcopal Church. Taize prayer services touch hearts and offer a way for Christians of all denominational backgrounds a time to pray together in Christs name. Taize Prayer provides a time for meditation, offering as a sense of calming and restoration for those who attend: For me Taize prayer is a form of meditation that turns off my thinking mind and helps me focus on God. (Sr. Gloria Heese, RSM). For me, Taize is a time to breathe. It is calming, I focus on Jeanne Woodstrup playing the piano in the foreground and Sister Gloria Heese looking on. prayer that is just not mine alone. The music runs through my mind like a warm, comforting breeze. (Jeanne Woodstrup). Taize during Lent provides a quiet and dark setting for contemplation in restoring our relationship with God. (Ellen and Tom Jones). While there are many things to like about Taize, I like praying for others and the community of Red bluff. (Maryly Adair, Pastor). Taize is a grand way for me to end Sunday. The atmosphere of the church of St. Peters helps me to focus on prayer. When it is over, I always leave with a feeling of comfort and peace. I miss it on the Sundays we do not have Taize prayer. (Sr. Janel Sawatzki, RSM). St. Peters is at 510 Jefferson St. at the corner of Jefferson and Elm. For more information call 5275205.
