Page 6 The North Carolina Mason January/February 2013 Memorial gifts remember and support Billing donates new clothes to WhiteStone Prevost, quickly assessed the volume of clothing items, and sorted out the boxes. Numerous WhiteStone staffers pulled together to help sort further. They picked January 10���11 for the giveaway to staff and residents of WhiteStone. They asked for donations to the Triad Alzheimers walk in exchange for the clothes. During those two days, WhiteStone raised more than $1,300 for the Alzheimer charity. All but two boxes of miscellaneous items were given away. The unclaimed boxes were passed on to other local charities in need of clothes. Tracy Armwood said, ���We had a lot of people make a donation of $20 or more because they saw the great quality of items donated and the value they were receiving. So many of our staff and residents thanked me for the opportunity to use these clothes for themselves and family members.��� WhiteStone has since followed up with a thank you letter to Brother Billing for this generous and unique donation along with pictures of the event. University helps band CHAPEL HILL ��� The Gravelly Hill Middle School Band in Efland was invited to participate in a December band conference in Chicago, Illinois. University 408 helped them pay for their trip by donating $350 to the cause. We recognize this final act of charity on the part of our supporting brethren. We honor the families who suffered such loss, who even in a time of sadness and mourning, have chosen to remember our children and their lives and futures. These gifts have contributed to the care of thousands at the Home for Children at Oxford throughout its history. They continue to make a tremendous difference in the care of our children today. Our Home remembers George Zezefellis and all those memorialized through the hundreds of gifts to our Home each year. We remember those memorials given throughout our entire history and the difference they have made in the course of this Home. We acknowledge the families who through loss have chosen to aid our mission and allow the memory of their loved one to continue to give to our Home and our children. Never one to turn down any sort of donation, Dianne quickly said, ���Yes,��� and made arrangements for the donation to be dropped off that weekend. Expecting to receive a few bags of miscellaneous clothes, what arrived on that Sunday afternoon surprised. Three pallets consisting of over 30 boxes of various items of socks, leggings, pajamas, shirts, and skirts were delivered. ���It was overwhelming; the volume of clothes donated and generosity,��� Dianne said. The donation was made by Bula 409���s Alvin Billing, who works for Kayser-Roth Corporation in Graham, NC. WhiteStone staff including Armstrong, Human Resource Director Tracy Armwood, and Community Life Services Director Gina George Zezefellis was 64 years old. He had a life filled with good memories, service to others, and the support of a large and loving family. As a Mason, his membership and affiliations were proudly listed, noting him to be one bound by the tenets of our fraternity ��� tenets which include charity. He and his family proudly and generously listed their wishes for friends, family, and those who knew and admired him ��� to remember his life with memorials for the care of the children at The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford. Similar acts of charity come to our Home in letters from spouses, sons, daughters, family, and friends. Masons come with a gift and the words ���in memory.��� We rarely have the chance to speak with those experiencing loss, other than for a letter of acknowledgement or sometimes brief phone call. Those loved ones rarely have a chance to witness the work these memorials accomplish or meet the children whose lives are changed through the charity of those remembered. With each gift, there is a story and a tribute, honoring a life while supporting a child.
