Friends of the Library membership drive Special to the DN February is Friends of the Library Membership Month. We don't ask much – just five dollars to show that you support the library. Who are the Friends of the Library? What do we do? We're a community non-profit that exists solely to support the library and raise funds for it. Nearly 100 percent of donations to the library come through the Tehama County Friends or the Corning Friends. We buy books, supplies, subscriptions, computers, equipment, and licenses. We help pay for programs and activities, for decorations and advertisements. We are the people of Tehama County reaching out to help our library. In 2012, the Tehama County Friends of the Library gave just over $40,000 worth of support to the Tehama County Library System. 97.3 percent of all of our expenses in 2012 went directly to library support. Here is a sample of what that $40,000 did: paid for all of the Children's Programming at the library; purchased new computers (staff & public access) for the Red Bluff & Corning branches; bought a one-year subscription for the entire library system to the Gale Online Reference Database; purchased over $14,000 worth of publications (books, magazines, & journals); funded the creation of the George Russell Memorial Art Wall in the Red Bluff Courtesy photo Attendees encourage Friends of KISS! For 8744. of Red Bluff LIbrary's Preschool Storyhour want to everyone to become a member of the Tehama County the Library. Sign up at the Red Bluff branch and get a more information contact Jennifer Stetson at (530) 727- Branch; and funded wireless internet access at all 3 branches (installed in January, 2013). But why do we ask for five dollars? Five dollars could get you a burger or some premium coffee, and it won't buy the library even one book. What's the point? If you're concerned that five dollars is too little, I'm not going to argue – feel free to give us more. But your five really is worth more to us than you might think. It shows your support. When we approach a granting organization, asking them to help us fund a library project, they want to know the people of Tehama County are behind their library. Why should they give us anything if our community doesn't care? By showing them the number of people who are willing to put their money – even just a little money – behind the library we show them their grant won't be wasted. They know their money is going to an active, caring community. Please become a part of our active, caring community. Join the Friends of the Library today. If you stop by the Red Bluff Branch to turn in your membership, they will give you a kiss from the library. Or you can mail your membership (and any extra donations) to TC Friends of the Library, Membership, 645 Madison St., Red Bluff, CA 96080. If you have any questions about the Friends organization, feel free to call Jennifer Stetson at 727-8744.
