A large part of Nathan Reed's job is
to sell Siloam Springs to businesses and
industries looking for a thriving com-
munity to put down roots. He said many
parts of his position at Siloam Springs'
Chamber of Commerce are challenging,
marketing the community to prospective
employers isn't a tough pitch.
"Siloam Springs sells itself," Nathan,
vice president of economic development,
explained. "We have a very strong school
district with a great program for train-
ing and getting their students prepared
for the workforce, whether it's higher
education or directly moving people into
the work force."
One of Siloam Springs many value
propositions Nathan touts to prospective
employers is the number of community
partnerships and the high quality of the
workforce.
"We have partnered with the school
system on several different projects for
workforce development," he said. "at's
really key anytime you are trying to
recruit a new company to come to your
community. It is all about workforce
stability and quality."
Nathan noted that the unemployment
rate in Northwest Arkansas is currently
around 2.7 percent. Full employment is
oen considered to be between 3.5 and
4 percent. e level of available employ-
ees a community can provide directly
impacts a company's willingness to settle
there.
"When you are at 2.7 percent, like we
are, you have to make sure you have a
highly skilled workforce to make sure
those companies are still attracted to
your community," he stressed. "When
unemployment is that low the school
district has to well prepare their students
for the workforce. e Siloam Springs
School District does a really great job of
preparing our students."
