T imes are good at Missouri Alpha and the chapter is doing great. With solid financial stability and an open-minded approach to the evolving fraternal landscape, the chapter is set up for even greater success in 2019. Membership is strong and recruitment continues to produce quality young men who are setting the bar high for Greek men at Mizzou. Missouri Alpha is, without a doubt, one of the top fraternities at Mizzou. FINANCIAL STABILITY Financially, the chapter is in great health. With occupancy at 93% of capacity this semester (up from 50% four years ago) and receipt of 81% of our total capital campaign pledge dollars ($1,189,571 at 2018 years-end), we have reached a position of financial security and positive cash flow. Receivables are lower than they've ever been thanks to the undergraduate treasurer's work and that of CAB treasurer, Chris Widmer '93. The chapter will be completely full in fall 2019. All of this contributes to the ability for us to build up cash reserves for future maintenance issues and improvements to the house, as well as investment in other areas like alumni communication, recruitment, and risk management. UNDERGRADUATE SUCCESS Academically, the chapter is positioned very well and is consistently at the top in grades. Just over three years ago the chapter ranked near dead last in chapter grades and new member grades. The past two years the Phi Delts have been #1 or #2 for each of the four semesters, trading places with the Betas every other semester. Study halls continue for Phikeias and both alumni and undergraduate academic chairmen play proactive roles assisting brothers if needed. Our young alumni are eager to learn and grow, so if you have an internship available you would like posted, please share it with the advisory board. MO Alpha has been able to succeed despite a very fragile and delicate environment for the Greek systems nationally and at Mizzou. Fraternities are subject to overwhelming university oversight and must constantly adjust to policy changes and shifts caused by the few fraternities that have not made big enough changes. We are all punished by irresponsible behavior of the few. While we don't think the Greek system will ever go away, proactive measures by fraternity consortiums and chapter advisory boards are essential in protecting the values and traditions of our fraternities. MO Alpha will continue to be a step ahead of this difficult task. We are proud MO Alpha has adapted well over the past two years and believe this has contributed significantly toward helping change the reputation of fraternities at Mizzou and positive opinions of our Greek system. Thanks for all you do as brothers of MO Alpha Phi Delta Theta. Your continued support is greatly appreciated and will be the driving force in transmitting the fraternity to future brothers for years to come.
