NEWS Big Red Island Beta Theta Pi at Oklahoma State University / Spring 2019 Think Back. Think Big. Think Beta. Campaign Nears $3.6 Million Raised SEE IT–BELIEVE IT! B rothers and Friends of Beta, Our company, Ward Construction, is the general contractor for the new Beta house at 1207 University Avenue. Our engagement in the project is far more than just a construction job. As Gamma Lambda Betas, it is our honor to be a part of building the new generation of housing for current and future Betas at OSU. The work is moving along close to schedule with the framing and roof completed and windows installed. Masonry and sheetrock work are underway. Interior trim, painting, and cabinetry will start in April, with the parking lot, basketball court, and landscaping completed during the summer break. The house features a large dining room, TV/ social room, library, heritage room and chapter room, as well as a full modern kitchen on the first floor. The first floor also contains five two-man rooms for upperclassmen residents. In addition, we have constructed an above-ground saferoom that can be used for any number of things in the future. There are two outdoor patio areas, one in the rear of the building and one adjacent to the front porch and basketball court. The basketball court, by the way, will be full court dimension with painted surface. Legendary side yard basketball will be alive and well at Beta when this is completed. The second and third floors consist of three- and four-man suites with study areas in each suite along with a third-floor study hall. Baths, showers, and laundry are located on each end of both floors. The front elevation of the house will carry forward the heritage of the old house featuring a large front porch and canopy. The red brick of the "Big Red Island" will live once again being punctuated by stone columns supporting the covered canopy. We can park in excess of 100 cars in our parking lots, which is close to one spot per resident. One area of the Heritage room will be reserved for an honor wall to recognize those Betas who have given their time and money to make this dream of a new house a reality. We are very grateful to those of you who have helped. There is work left to do, but we look forward to the fall of this year when 100 to 125 Betas and pledges move into the new house and a new generation of Gamma Lambda Betas at 1207 University, Oklahoma State University.
