BETA TIDINGS A PUBLICATION OF BETA SIGMA PSI AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2019 InsIde: ALUMNUS SPOTLIGHT 2 CHAPTER REPORT 3 ALUMNI NEWS 4 Men of Character, Conviction, and Confidence Beta Chapter Membership Exemplifies Core Values B oth yesterday and today, Beta Sig makes us proud. When we look back at our own Beta Chapter experiences, we can see how the friendships, leadership, and ser- vice—even decades ago—helped shaped who we are now. Beta Alumnus Selected as Foundation Chairman Founded in 1982, the Beta Sigma Psi Educa- tional Foundation seeks to provide educational and developmental opportunities to meet the needs of our current undergraduates. In an effort to exemplify our spiritual, scholastic, and social values, the foundation provides scholarships to active members in recognition of their own hard work and dedication to these values. As of Janu- ary 1, I am honored to serve as chairman of of this esteemed organization. Perpetuating the Scholarship Ideal The 2019 Beta Sigma Psi Membership Educa- tion Forum was held on January 19-20 in Lou- isville, Ky. This year's theme was "Rise Up; Be the Change!" and in addition to traditional membership workshops, Larry Edwards, Zeta '54 announced his formal retirement from the National Board of Directors of Beta Sigma Psi. Throughout his decades-long career with the national fraternity, Larry served in a variety of roles to further the mission of our brotherhood. Beta Chapter was proudly represented by 11 ac- tive members and three alumni. Purdue Christian Leadership Award Open House Success The Purdue Christian Leadership Award Open House was held on Saturday, March 2. We had 20 applicants in total, with 13 interviews at the Chap- ter House and two remote. Most of the young men seemed genuinely interested in the Chapter. The fi- nal decision will be announced in May once we have confirmation of who will attend Purdue University. Chapter Implements New Risk Management Policy The Fraternity voted to accept the risk manage- ment policy that prohibits hard alcohol from all Chapter premises. This is in anticipation of a new National Interfraternity Conference rule coming in the fall semester of 2019, which is already in effect at Purdue University. This re- striction is in place at all times and includes, but is not limited to, fraternity functions. We ask all alumni to please keep this in mind when visiting the Chapter House. Visit Us at 525 University Street Our efforts to keep Beta Chapter strong will only be successful if we remember our ΒΣΨ roots. The undergraduate Chapter is working diligently to maintain our standards of excellence through their commitment to academics, philanthropy, and brotherhood. Alumni support has certainly not gone unnoticed, and I thank each of you who continues to contribute to Beta's future.
