TAU CHAPTER OF THETA CHI FRATERNITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA TAU TOPICS Spring 2019 ORANGE AND BLUE WEEKEND—APRIL 13 AT 11 A.M. T hroughout our time as undergraduate members in Theta Chi, each brother realizes he is able to make an impact on the Chap- ter through dedication and hard work. However, the opportu- nity to make a difference in Tau Chapter extends beyond our under- graduate years. It is a well-known fact that the best chapters are the ones that have strong ongoing support from their alumni. Our Chapter will always need your support and dedication to our brotherhood. I remembered studying about several of the "greats" during my fresh- man year. Many of these brothers had a profound influence on the history of our Chapter. Through the dedication and hard work of these brothers, they distinguished themselves as men of vision, courage, and integrity. It is encouraging to see that these values, established so long ago, still remain strong today. As I spend time with the undergraduate members in the Chapter today, I can see in these men the same qualities of several of the "greats." Observing them, I am impressed with the fact that what we enjoyed as Theta Chi undergraduates was only possible due in thanks to the men who came before us. We have greatly benefited from our pre- decessors' loyalty and involvement in Tau Chapter. I am reminded of the saying, "We have all warmed ourselves by the fires we didn't build, and drunk from the wells we didn't dig." The brothers who established our Chapter values provided us with the opportunities that we had, and now, in turn, it is our responsibility to give back so as to ensure that this heritage is perpetuated. How can we remain a strong Chapter without the help of alumni like you? If you aren't sure how to get involved, the first step is to at- tend Orange and Blue Weekend on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. The Chapter will host an alumni event before the game starting at 11 a.m. Look for additional details on our Facebook page and through email as the date approaches. If you would like to stay up to date with Tau Chapter's alumni events and receive direct communication from the Chapter, please be sure to provide us with your updated email address. You can help ensure that the same rich experience you enjoyed as an undergraduate will be made available to our undergraduate brothers simply by your presence at the Chapter House. I can't help but wonder which of our names will one day be considered among the "greats." Please extend your dedication and involvement in Tau. "The relationships built with fellow pledge brothers and the active Chapter during the pledging process created a network that is always available to reach out to if needed." Tau Chapter is a piece of Lance's life that is a constant reminder of commitment to be a part of something bigger than himself. While at UF, Lance was able to complete his Bachelor of Arts in criminology with a minor in military science and was involved in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). "Growing up I always felt a need to serve, but I also wanted to achieve my childhood dream of becoming a helicopter pilot and Army ROTC provided me the oppor- tunity to do both." After graduation, Lance was commissioned into the Army and accepted into the aeromedical evacuation officer program. Upon graduating from Army flight school as a rated aviator in the Black Hawk helicopter, Lance was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel and Resolute Sup- port. After returning from Afghanistan, Lance completed the aviation captain's career course and will relocate to Fort Polk, La., to serve as an Alumni Keep Tau Chapter Strong The Best of Both Worlds Lance Freeberg '09 Values Relationships Attained through Tau (Continued on page 4)
