e city of Prairie Grove is anything
but a sleepy little town. e city has rapidly
grown from its Civil War days to becoming a
prime location for antiquing, revitalizing and
welcoming new businesses, and providing
unique, high-quality benefits to both the
community and visitors.
In 1829, a hunter, Tom Wagnon starting
clearing land around a spring, in what would
later be Mock Park. e land was then sold
to Reverend Andrew "Uncle Buck" Buchanan
for the steep price of two sermons. Buchanan
then built a school and church on the land and
people have been pouring in ever since.
Before the name was Prairie Grove, the
town went by Sweet Home, and then later Ada.
According to legend, the name Prairie Grove
came to be aer someone referred to a spot
of land in the city as the "grove of trees on the
prairie."
