For 11 years he was a partner in the Aberdeen, Mississippi, law firm of Houston, Chamberlain and Houston, and served as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., Tampa, Florida, and New York City. He then served for 30 years as the United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi before joining the Mississippi-based law firm of Mitchell, McNutt & Sams in 2013.
