Building your dream business takes a lot of courage and passion. Protect your dream with the appropriate insurance policy: 1) General Liability is policy is the foundation for protecting your business. It offers coverage if you or someone working on your behalf causes injury or property damage. Even home-based businesses with no employees should have this one. If your business provides skills such as accounting, real estate, hair styling, or other professional services, consider an errors and omissions policy in addition to general liability. It offers protection if you unwittingly fail at providing those services. 2) Property Insurance For those businesses with a building, you will need property insurance to cover damage such as fire, theft, and other forms of destruction. is will also cover your office equipment, tools, and inventory. Any vehicles owned by the business will need to be covered with commercial auto insurance. 3) Directors and Officers Insurance If your business has a board of directors or even a slate of officers providing leadership, consider providing a directors and officers policy. is covers your leaders in the event of being sued for damages as a result of their work on behalf of the business. 4) Workers' Compensation Do you have employees? en you will need to offer workers' compensation to cover on- the-job accidents. If an employee is injured, this policy covers wage replacement and medical expenses. And by accepting those payments, workers relinquish their right to sue the business for damages. is is definitely one of the more important policies for a business owner to have. 5) Umbrella Insurance Business owners should also take a look at their personal insurance policies to make sure they have plenty of coverage for their personal liabilities. Some homeowners' policies offer what's called an "umbrella" policy, which extends the coverage to include additional damage beyond what a typical homeowner or auto policy offers.
