And the varsity team will be hard to miss. It'll be out in pink jerseys. Macdonald said she loves how the community, including Red Bluff's student body, has embraced the event. "It's a big deal for our program," varsity coach Kathy Brandt said, adding that the event puts life in perspective for the players. Macdonald said, "On the night, it's like, 'This is what I'm playing for.'" While Red Bluff High School has been raising money in the lead up to the Pink Out!, spectators will have opportunities to contribute as well. Gift baskets, cookies and a raffle will be some of the things available, that, if purchased, will go toward the fundraising effort. The freshmen will tip off at 4:30 p.m., junior varsity at 6 p.m. and varsity will hit the court at 7:30 p.m. A rally will be held about a half hour before school is let out that day as well. "Hopefully, some day there will be a cure so none of us have to go through that," Brandt said. Additionally, the Lariat Bowl will be hosting the Bowling Bash (SERRF 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.), where those under 21 will pair up with over 21s from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 per pair. Follow him on Twitter: @TehamaSports Red Bluff varsity girls basketball coach Kathy Bradnt said, in her 19 years of coaching, that she's never seen so many injuries in a week-and-ahalf period. The Spartans (15-7, 303 Sac River League) were in the midst of a stellar year, reaching the championship game of Red Bluff's Holiday Classic earlier in the season and winning their first three Sac River League games before dropping their last three. Here's where the Spartans stand, health wise, today. • Junior guard Brittany Clatty went down with a neck injury Thursday and is awaiting X-ray results. It's unlikely she will play Tuesday. • Sophomore guard Daisy Brose had to be carried off the court against Foothill on Thursday because of a twisted ankle. Brandt said she's not on crutches and is probable for Tuesday's game against Enterprise. • Junior guard Emily Gallagher is coming off a degree 2 ankle sprain, is off crutches, but will be a game-time decision for Tuesday. • Senior Maggie Hansen suffered a knee injury against West Valley on Tuesday. • Senior guard Taylor Wood caught an elbow to her eye area on Thursday but should be good to go on Tuesday. • Senior forward Jessica Macdonald has been in and out of games with recent asthma attacks. • Junior guard Chelsey Bushnell is fighting left and right knee injuries, but has been playing through pain and will likely play Tuesday. • Freshman center Payten McKerras has been out with a strained MCL on her right knee and has yet to get the goahead to play. Brandt said she could be out a week or a month. • Senior guard Alex Dahnke has been out with a season-ending shoulder injury. Junior guards Calisha Cruise and Adrienne Hinkston are healthy. The injuries, Brandt said, have brought the team closer together. And despite the Spartans dropping their last three league games, they've found ways to stay competitive — namely through a tenacious defensive effort. "They're fighting, we're playing as hard as we can play," she said, adding that some recent bad breaks shooting wise have been out of their control. The Red Bluff Spartans varsity basketball team rode a clean first half to a lead going to the second against the Foothill Cougars on Friday at Red Bluff High School. But a big third quarter from the Cougars (17-8, 6-1 Sac River League) ultimately doomed the Spartans (1014, 1-5 SRL), who fell 5236 in the league matchup. It was Red Bluff's senior night, and senior Connor Ross started things off strong with a five point first quarter that included a 3pointer. Senior Mike Nichols joined in the action with a 3 of his own in the period and the Spartans were down just three points going to the second quarter, 14-11. Nichols finished with nine points. Red Bluff gained a 17-16 lead with 1:32 left to play in the first half off after Ross drilled another 3-pointer, and the Spartans would take a 21-20 lead to the locker room. Ross finished with eight points on the night. Foothill's Brett Cloney and Blake Trent would find their rhythm in the third and both dropped eight points a piece for the Cougars. Foothill outscored Red Bluff 20-5 in the period, which would ultimately seal the game for the Cougars. Up next for the Spartans is a trip to Enterprise at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Jessica Macdonald, now a senior on Red Bluff's varsity girls basketball team, in 2010, wanted to do something to spread awareness of cancer after people close to her were afflicted with its related diseases. Now, what started as an idea, is in its third year, and is likely to continue long after Macdonald graduates.
