February 20, 2019 www.DesertMessenger.com 33 James A. Mitchell James A. Mitchell, 85, passed away un- expectedly of a heart attack on Janu- ary 23, 2019 in Quartzsite, Arizona. He and his wife Dorothy had spent winters there for the past 20 years to get out of the cold in Montana. Jim was born in Independence, Oregon to Richard and Ellen (Keller) Mitchell, the second of seven children. They moved back to Montana when Jim was still a baby. Jim graduated from Stevensville High school, where he lettered in several sports. After high school he joined the Army where he became a Ranger and paratrooper with the 11th Airborne. Jim was working for the Butte-Ana- conda and Pacific Railroad when he met his wife Dorothy while dancing at the IT Club outside of Butte in Rocker. They were married in Shelby, Montana on May 29, 1958, and celebrated their 60th anniversary last year. They had three children, Jim, Steve, and Laurie –all two years apart. Jim managed the Hennessey store in Livingston, and then transferred to the new Helena store. Deciding to go into business for himself, he became half owner of H & M Equipment Com- pany selling farm machinery. He later bought the King Koin Laundromat. Jim went to Alaska on a vacation and decided that if you could make money floating around on the ocean, "that was the life!" Dorothy and Jim fished com- mercially in Southeast Alaska for 20 years. They loved every minute of it! Jim was an avid hunter and fisher- man, who got his antelope last fall at the age of 84. His younger brother Lonnie helped him pack it out. The fish in Hauser Lake are relieved even though the family is sad! His life was richly blessed by the Lord. He loved being with his family, dancing and playing cards and games. Not a day went by that he wasn't busy. In Memoriam Patricia (Pat) Hamann Pat Hamann was born in Bay City, MI on April 5, 1940. She left this world on July 24, 2018. She married her high school sweetheart Ronald Hamann may 21, 1960. Together she and Ronnie traveled the United States. In the 1980's they discov- ered Quartzsite and it became their winter home away from home. They camped in the BLM free areas. They explored the desert on four wheel- ers, did many crafts and painting, enjoyed the music at the QIA and at- tended mass at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church. They made many friends from all over the country, was very well known for the large bon fires and many pot lucks they had as well as making popcorn balls. Pat lost Ron on November 2, 2002. Pat continued to come to the desert with her oldest daughter Karen and son-in-law Ron Zweltzig. She also had a daughter Cathy and her hus- band Chris Lee of Bay City, MI. She is also survived by her grand and great grandchildren; grand- daughter Amy & Mike Ricupate and their girls Gabby Y Izzy from Bay City, Mich.; Grandson Steve & Joy Schroeder and their new baby Grace from Elko, NV; Two more grand- sons Jacob & Jason Lee from Bay City, Mich. She lost a great grand- daughter Emily Lee. Pat was blessed to have a wonderful friend Lois Frost who took over own- ership of her precious pup Missy; she is missed in the desert by many friends she's had over the years. Carl T. Baldwin Carl Baldwin 83, of Quartzsite, AZ went home to be with his Heavenly Father on January 30th 2019, in his home surrounded by family. Carl was born to Leroy and Doy Baldwin, in Dixon TN, February 28,1935. Carl was an Air Force vet- eran of the Viet Nam War and a member of the Quartzsite Alliance Church. He also was a faithful fol- lower of Jesus Christ. Carl attended the Quartzsite First Assembly of God for several years. He was sur- vived by his wife Doris Baldwin of Quartzsite AZ; Son Ricky Bald- win of Antioch CA; Daughter Carla Price, of Quartzsite AZ; Daughter Cynthia Baldwin-Rogers and her husband Lonnie Rogers. Carl also had 9 grandchildren, and 22 great- grandchildren. Services will be held February 17, 2019 at the Quartzsite Alliance Church at 2:00 p.m. We have great lunch menus, serving at 12 noon sharp! Sapp was born to James Emory and Mildred Cham- bers Sapp on August 22, 1921. Jim, a longtime resident of Quartzsite, passed away on Janu- ary 17, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim was born in Delaware and the family came west for his moth- er's health in 1929, settling in Lib- erty, Arizona. Jim's wife Helen preceded him in death. Jim leaves a brother Robert (Sharon) and nu- merous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jim loved the outdoors and roam- ing around the desert. The fam- ily would like to thank all of Jim's friends and neighbors for their kindness. Services will be held at a later date. Your vacation should be a pleasant experience for you and your family.
