Looking forward to seeing our Friends! Not a licensed contractor By Jackie Deal Two bare feet: small. Eight cow- boy boots: large and extra-large. Yes, that's Barefoot and Boots Dance Band, the longest running band in the Quartzsite area. They are saying a fond, tearful farewell: NO, not quite! The band is retir- ing but the musicians will still be around here and playing at vari- ous times and places. Their loyal and adoring fans are planning a "Retirement Party "on March 9th at the Quartzsite Improvement As- sociation. Be sure to keep this date open: March 9th at the Quartzsite Improvement Association (QIA). Music starts at 7 pm and a party will be held at break time. If you don't wish to dance you can come and listen to their wonderful music. Carolyn's keyboard comple- ments the traditional guitars and drums to make Barefoot and Boots something extra special. Carolyn and Rey formed the band in 2004 and they haven't missed a date until this year when band members' health problems forced cancellations. Disbanding was not an easy decision: Caroline looks off wistfully and says, "I shed tears three nights in a row. This is the best band I've ever been involved with." Rey says, "Personalities have a lot to do with it. We've all just clicked." Jerry Reynolds has been with the band ten years and plays lead guitar and sings solo and harmonizes with Carolyn. Wayne Walker has played drums with them for nine years. Rey says, "He takes us out of the doldrums." Jim Olson joined them two years ago as a bass player and rounds out the group. Carolyn and Rey say, "We are so grateful for all the wonderful people who have supported us through the years. We may not always know your names, but we always looked forward to seeing you on the dance fl oor. Without you, we wouldn't have been doing what we did. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for fi fteen wonderful years." Let's get together March 9th and show our love and support for them. Quartzsite music lovers will miss Barefoot and Boots. QIA is located at 235 E. Ironwood, Quartzsite. History never really says goodbye.
