T2 WHATS UP! February 10 - 16, 2019 BY FRANCIS BABIN TV Media L ast month marked an important milestone in the history of enter- tainment. Twenty years ago, "The Sopranos" de- buted on HBO to high praise and instantaneously changed the television landscape forev- er. In the years since its much- talked-about finale, the Jersey- based mob drama has only be- come more important. The tracksuit-wearing wiseguys ushered in a new golden age of television, with seemingly ev- ery network, including AMC, trying their hand at character- driven dramas regardless of their overarching program- ming focus. After the award-winning one-two punch of "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad," AMC — formerly a movies-only chan- nel — struck gold once again with "The Walking Dead." For nearly a decade, the post-apoc- alyptic comic book adaptation has dominated pop culture with its addictive story arcs, over-the-top villains and many memorable moments. On Sun- day, Feb. 10, "The Walking Dead" returns for the second half of its thrilling ninth season. In the wake of Negan's (Jef- frey Dean Morgan, "Watch- men," 2009) defeat, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln, "Teachers") became the leader of all of the surrounding com- munities. He worked tirelessly to assure the co-operation be- tween Maggie's (Lauren Co- han, "The Vampire Diaries") Hilltop group, Daryl's (Nor- man Reedus, "Ride with Nor- man Reedus") Saviors and Ezekiel's (Khary Payton, "Gen- eral Hospital") Kingdom in or- der to build a sustainable fu- ture for everyone. Eventually, his vision and leadership were questioned, and amid the ris- ing tensions and infighting within and between the com- munities, an insurrection took place. Unfortunately for Rick, he was not be able to see the com- munities overcome their dif- ferences and live harmonious- ly with one another.
