2A Daily News – Wednesday, February 6, 2013 Community people&events Coordinating Council seeks board members The Tehama County Coordinating Council for the Developmentally Disabled is looking for board members to represent this county on two area wide agencies. There are two vacancies to be filled. One is on the Far Northern Regional Center Board of Directors and the second is on the Area 2 Board for Developmental Disabilities. Individuals interested in serving as a board members should demonstrate an interest in human service activities, including advocating for individuals and developing policies affecting positive outcomes for people with developmental disabilities. Serving on these boards provides a unique opportunity to improve policy, practices and services for people with developmental disabilities. Board members of the both area wide agencies are members of the local coordinating council. They act as informational conduits between the local group and the area agencies. Persons interested in becoming board members of the local and area wide agencies are requested to attend the next meeting of the Tehama County Coordinating Council on Feb. 19 at the Court House Annex, Red Bluff. The Far Northern Regional Center Board has 18 volunteer members and meets six times a year. The area 2 Board consists of 14 members and also meets six times per year. Both agencies strive to help individuals with developmental disabilities live a more productive and valued life as welcomed members of their communities. The Tehama County Coordinating Council is made up of representatives of agencies, family members and consumers. The local Coordinating Council acts as the eyes and ears of the community to ensure the quality of the rights and services for the developmentally disabled. The local council stages a luncheon in May to honor people who provide exemplary services to the developmentally disabled. Another project of the Council is a Focus Film Festival which screens a film about the lives of the developmentally disabled. Entries are accepted for 2013 NBCO. www.beefcookoff.org 2 pounds ground beef chuck 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 green pepper, cut into strips 1/2 cup chopped onion 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1/4 teaspoon ground or crushed cumin 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper 2 cans ( 16 ounces each) whole tomatoes, chopped, reserving juice 1/2 cup raisins 1/2 cup white wine 1 large apple, cored and diced Cooked couscous or brown rice Heat oil in heavy pot or Dutch oven; brown ground beef, stirring vigorously, several minutes. Add green pepper, onions, garlic, chili powder, red pepper flakes, cumin, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes and juice; cover and cook slowly 15 minutes.
