The purpose of North Carolina City & County Communicators is to encourage professional development and networking among local governmental communications professionals. The organization was formed in March 2007 by 27 professional communicators from across the state. Since then, the organization has grown to more than 70 members. City and Community Links Homeless Fire Department Receives Award for Support of Calendar of Events MAY Guard and Reserve The Fayetteville Fire Department received an award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for providing “Above and Beyond” support of reservist employees who are called back to active duty. The department accepted the award at a recognition banquet in Greensboro that honored employers from across the state for providing assistance to deployed reservist families, held positions for reserve soldiers while deployed and eased their transition back into civilian life. Population with Services The City of Fayetteville’s Community Development Department is working with local organizations to link the homeless population with services they need. Project Homeless Connect, being held Thursday, May 20 at First Baptist Church on Moore Street, offers a wide range of tools to the homeless to improve their lives. The event is being held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and features breakfast and lunch. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch will follow later in the day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants can receive free haircuts, prescription assistance, medical and dental assistance, housing assistance, job placement assistance and government assistance. Military recruiters will also be on hand. Transportation will be provided to and from the event by the Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST). The event is sponsored by the Fayetteville/ Cumberland County 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness Steering Committee.  are members of the National Guard. Fireman Joseph Ferguson recently returned from active duty after spending 16 months in JSS Copper, Iraq. Fireman Michael Burris is currently on active duty in IZ Green Zone, Iraq. Assistant Fire Chief Thomas M. Allen was activated in 1991 in support of Operation Desert Shield. Budget Webpage Keeps Citizens Informed In an effort to keep citizens informed and to promote transparency in City government, the City of Fayetteville has launched a webpage to advise citizens of progress made during the current budget process. Residents can log onto http://www.ci.fayetteville.nc.us/ budget-chronicles/ and read a budget message from City Manager Dale Iman and detailed information on budget components. The webpage explains the budget process step-by-step as decisions are made and information is obtained towards accomplishing a balanced budget.
