Delta Upsilon Update 2 T he fall semester started off strong. We had a wonderful recruitment thanks to our Vice President of Membership, Annie Rhoades '15, and welcomed home 87 new members. Our Bid Day was themed "Sunny ΣΚies and Sig K Vibes" and everyone had so much fun with the festivities. Following recruitment, Sigma Kappa participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer's by volunteering, raising donations, and contributing to operational setup on the day of the event. Our Vice President of Philanthropic Service, Mackenzie Stdko-Simon '16, organized the efforts and we raised an impressive $35,000 for the Alzheimer's Association ® . Our VPPS also hosted other events during the fall semester, including Walking Taco and Active for ALZ. With these many successful fundraisers for our philanthropy came an upbeat and energized attitude for Homecoming! We were paired with Sigma Phi Epsilon and NHPC. The Homecoming overall theme was "Bears through the Ages," and we decided on the tag line "Bears love rock 'n' roll, so put another dime in the jukebox Boomer!" A Homecoming highlight was placing second in the Yell like Hell chant and dance competition. The participants worked tirelessly to perfect the routine and execute it flawlessly. Overall, Homecoming was a success and getting to know our partners and further our roots in the FSL community was enjoyable! After the successes of Homecoming, the Delta Upsilon Chapter had another memorable event: Dad's Day. The fathers and daughters spent the morning eating breakfast, taking pictures, and enjoying each other's company. On October 28, we initiated 67 women into our sisterhood. A touching ceremony entrenched with our ever important ritual welcomed our new members as they became initiated members. Many Sigma Kappa alumnae returned for the ceremony, as mothers who were Sigma Kappas came to pin their daughters, making for many touching moments. We then celebrated Founder's Day on November 11 in the Plaster Student Union ballroom. We had a buffet of southern-style food along with refreshments. Members competed for prizes to show off their knowledge of our chapter's roots with trivia. We then awarded a woman from each new member class with a Founder's Day award. The award recognized members who emulate the values of our Founders each and every day. Everyone loved it, as it showed that every member's time and dedication to the chapter is appreciated and recognized. With a great semester under wraps, we look forward to next semester and all the success and memories to come!
