Fun! Laughter! The QIA resounds with it Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 3 pm.at the square dance lessons. (QIA for you newbies is the Quartzsite Improve- ment Association, the building with Santa and his reindeers atop). We have three squares (and a few extras), that's four couples in each: you do the math. There must be more folks out there who would enjoy a little movement to music with simple steps called by Rick Utter from Wickenburg. We have "newbies", retreads and experienced danc- ers: everyone helps, everyone has fun. Rick is welcoming new dancers during January; why not try it? Two hours and $4 is all it costs and benefi ts in health and good times are limitless. Singles and couples ae both welcomed. Regular dances, with dances for all levels, have begun on Sundays at 3 pm. It's fun to watch the really good dancers show off their stuff with just a few mishaps. Casual attire is acceptable. (That means you Ladies don't have to wear crinolines and fancy skirts.) Mt. Quail Cafe featured artist By Oney Budge We are honored to have Larry R. Jones share his private collection of Western Book cover paint- ings, painted for local author Stu Campbell. Raised in the Pacifi c Northwest, his constant doodlings and drawings prompted a demand for drama club scenery backdrops and cartoon- ing in the school paper. You can see Larry with his sketchbook at any given time always draw- ing. Cards will be for sale at the cafe, made from many of the sketchings never seen before. At a young age Larry opened his own sign com- pany becoming known for his artistry on sig- nage and billboards. At age 29 Larry began a 25 year career as a deputy sheriff and crime scene sketch artist. As the story goes, his crime scene sketches where so detailed he was asked to con- tinue in this position when needed. After retiring and a 10 year fulltime RVing span, Larry and his wife settled down in Bouse, Arizona. Designing their dream home in which they built themselves and resuming his love of arts in his studio at home. Larry has painted many bookcovers for multiple authors, portraits of well known actors and commissioned work upon request. Larry will have paintings for sale at the upcoming Quartzsite Art Guild Art Show, January 11&12, 2019 held at the Senior Center, 40 Moon Mountain Ave. Quartzsite, Arizona. When you come to view Larry's paintings, be sure to look for him sitting in a booth, possibly visiting or having a meal with the authors he paints for.
