Music from loudspeakers in the stores, music from radios, TVs; music from car windows and music from street corners. It's Christmas time (as if you didn't notice!) and mu- sic is drilled into our bones. But come to the desert. There's music of a different sort. CHRISTMAS IN THE DESERT A place to hang my stocking on a cactus Christmas tree, Lots of stars just like the shepherds shining down on me. The warm sun in the daytime and you here with me. Christmas in the desert and peace on earth is here. Sometimes I think I see a star just like when Christ was born. Sometimes I think the world stands still and listens every morn To coyotes singing praise to Him and birds sing out good cheer. Christmas in the desert and peace on earth is here. Cookie Shannon © Ah yes, there will be music for Christmas- music we make, and music we can all take part in. • On December 21 from 4-7p.m. there will be a display of Nativity scenes at the LDS Church on South Riggles Road. You are welcome to come, have a cookie and wander around a large display of Nativity sets of all sizes and styles. Some are from foreign lands. The Nativity Scenes provided by community people, are displayed and then returned to their owners. What a nice way to start the Christmas season. • Music is the featured theme of the Alliance Church at 720 W. Desert Vista St. with Cookie Shannon leading the choir. This is a "Candlelight" Service on December 24th at 6 pm. There will be community singing and the Christmas Story read between songs. Pastor Jeremiah Holcombe says, "Come on in, grab a cookie and a cup of cider or coffee and join in the sing- ing." Everyone is welcome and there is no fee. • Southern Baptist, 100 N. Kofa St. will have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, 6 p.m. December 24. It will include a brief sermon, lighting of the candles and singing. Everyone is welcome. • First Baptist Church, 30 Church St., is also holding a Candlelight Service, Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. Pastor Mark Phillips says everyone is given a real candle and they light them for the singing of Silent Night. There will be a short message and a communion service. • Community Bible Church, 375 East Sunrise St. holds their Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6:30pm and Pastor Mike Glines says everyone will be provided a battery-powered candle for the service. A "power-point presentation" of the Nativity will be presented and Associate Pastor Tony Meyers will lead the singing of Christmas songs with the words projected on the screen. • After the Sunday morning services (10 a.m. December 23) the Desert Cowboy Church will host a potluck. Bring something to share and come, you might bring a chair and warm clothes are needed as the meeting is outside. The Church meets at the BLM La Posa South just south of town. • On Christmas Day from 2-4 p.m. the Church of Isaiah 58, 100 Moon Mt. St. welcomes everyone to a free Christmas Dinner. Everyone is welcome. They say they unusually serve around 110 people but they expect over 200 for Christmas Dinner. • There are probably other Christmas specials so call your favorite church and see what they ae offering.
