2B – Daily News – Monday, May 17, 2010 Sammy Kitwara wins Bay to Breakers foot race SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Kenya’s Sammy Kitwara is the winner for the second year in a row of San Francisco’s ING Bay to Breakers foot race. Kitwara finished the 12 kilome- ter, or 7.46 mile race Sunday, with a time of 34:15, barely inching out fellow Kenyan Peter Kirui. Kitwara, 23, takes home $25,000 for finishing in first, plus another $5,000 for leading the pack over the first major hill of the course, according to race organiz- ers. On the women’s side, Kenyan Lineth Chepkurui broke the women’s record time for the race, finishing at 38:07. Also finishing near the top was Oakland resident Magadalena Lewy-Boulet. With a time of 41:39, the 36-year-old came in seventh in the women’s division, and finished ahead of all other American women. More than 32,000 people registered to enter the race, according to race organizers. But each year, tens of thousands of less serious runners — many dressed in outrageous costumes, and some wearing noth- ing at all — turn the race into a Scoreboard MLB West Division Texas A’s American League WL Pct GB 20 18 .526 — 18 20 .474 2 Angels 18 21 .462 2.5 Seattle 14 23 .378 5.5 East Division WL Pct GB Tampa Bay 26 11 .703 — New York 24 13 .649 2 Toronto 23 16 .590 4 Boston 19 19 .500 7.5 Baltimore 12 26 .316 14.5 Central Division Minnesota 23 14 .622 — Detroit WL Pct GB 22 16 .579 1.5 Cleveland 15 20 .429 7 Chicago 15 22 .405 8 Kansas City 14 24 .368 9.5 ——— Saturday’s results Los Angeles 12, Oakland 3 Chicago 5, Kansas City 4 Cleveland 8, Baltimore 2 Detroit 7, Boston 6, 12 innings New York 7, Minnesota 1 Tampa Bay 3, Seattle 2 Toronto 6, Texas 0 Sunday’s results Los Angeles 4, Oakland 0 Cleveland 5, Baltimore 1 Detroit 5, Boston 1 Kansas City 5, Chicago 3 Minnesota 6, New York 3 Tampa Bay 2, Seattle 1 Toronto 5, Texas 2 Today’s games Seattle (Rowland-Smith 0-3) at A’s (G.Gonzalez 3-3), 7:05 p.m.,CSNCA Boston (Matsuzaka 2-1) at New York (P.Hughes 5-0), 4:05 p.m., ESPN Chicago (F.Garcia 2-2) at Detroit (Porcello 3-3), 4:05 p.m. Kansas City (Davies 2-2) at Baltimore (Bergesen 3-2), 4:05 p.m. Minnesota (Slowey 4-3) at Toronto (Eveland 3-2), 4:07 p.m. Cleveland (Carmona 4-1) at Tampa Bay (Niemann 3-0), 4:10 p.m. Los Angeles (Kazmir 2-3) at Texas (Holland 1-0), 5:05 p.m. West Division National League WL Pct GB Padres 22 15 .595 — GIANTS 21 15 .583 .5 Dodgers 20 17 .541 2 Colorado 19 18 .514 3 Arizona 15 23 .395 7.5 East Division WL Pct GB Philadelphia 22 13 .629 — Florida 20 18 .526 3.5 Washington 20 18 .526 3.5 Atlanta 18 19 .486 5 New York 18 20 .474 5.5 Central Division WL Pct GB Cincinnati 21 16 .568 — St. Louis 21 17 .553 .5 Pittsburgh 16 21 .432 5 Chicago 16 22 .421 5.5 Milwaukee 15 21 .417 5.5 Houston 13 24 .351 8 ——— Saturday’s results San Francisco 2, Houston 1 Arizona 11, Atlanta 1 Cincinnati 4, St. Louis 3 Colorado 6, Washington 2, 1st game Colorado 4, Washington 3, 2nd game Florida 7, New York 5 Los Angeles 4, San Diego 1 Philadelphia 10, Milwaukee 6 Pittsburgh 4, Chicago 3 Sunday’s results San Francisco 4, Houston 3 Atlanta 13, Arizona 1 Chicago 4, Pittsburgh 3 Cincinnati 7, St. Louis 2 Colorado 2, Washington 1 Florida 10, New York 8 Los Angeles 1, San Diego 0 Philadelphia at Milwaukee, late Today’s games San Francisco (Cain 2-2) at San Diego (Richard 2-2),7:05 p.m.,CSNBA Pittsburgh (Morton 1-6) at Philadelphia (K.Kendrick 1-1), 4:05 p.m. Arizona (E.Jackson 1-5) at Florida (Volstad 3-3), 4:10 p.m. Milwaukee (Gallardo 4-2) at Cincinnati (Cueto 2-1), 4:10 p.m. New York (Pelfrey 4-1) at Atlanta (D.Lowe 5-3), 4:10 p.m. Colorado (Cook 1-3) at Chicago (R.Wells 3-2), 5:05 p.m. EASTERN CONFERENCE WL T Pts GF GA New York 5 3 0 15 8 9 Columbus 4 0 2 14 10 5 Toronto FC 3 4 1 10 11 13 Chicago 2 3 3 9 11 12 Kansas City 2 3 2 8 8 8 New England 2 5 2 8 10 14 Philadelphia 1 5 1 4 7 15 D.C.
