THE RED DOOR p. 2 T his coming year, Matthew Heine '18 will be finishing his schooling at Ala- bama and joining the Marine Corps as an officer. Matthew's family has a history of men serving their country, so the desire to join the Marines was natural. "I didn't feel drawn to my original major of fi- nance or engineering, so I joined the Marine Corps to have an impact on my country in an honorable manner," Matthew said. The senior has completed his two summers of physical, mental, and character preparation in Quantico, Virginia, and looks forward to receiv- ing his letter from the President of the United States saying he is fit to be an officer in the Ma- rine Corps. After receiving the letter, he will then enter the Primary Commissioning Source, where a large amount of current Marine officers are se- lected from. "I feel very accomplished to do what I did," Mat- thew said. "The journey is just beginning, and I will continue to earn the title of a Marine every single day." Jay is an Army Ranger, and Warren is a Viet- nam veteran and a SigEp from Carrol College. OFF TO THE MARINES Jack Callahan Jack is a 19-year- old freshman from St. Louis, Missouri. Double-majoring in economics and English, Jack is a determined schol- ar. When deciding why to come to Al- abama, Jack said, "I always knew I wanted to go to school somewhere where it was warm. Aca- demics and Greek life were the most impor- tant part of my decision." His double major keeps his mind constantly running with economics and English being on different sides of the spectrum. Jack joined SigEp because he felt welcomed by everyone. "Older brothers went out of their way to make me feel comfortable," Jack said. Jack knew that Alabama Beta was the place for him. As for the future, Jack hopes to "make sure that SigEp Alabama Beta with- holds the values in which our Fraternity was founded." Jack Adams Jack is a double major in finance and economics with quantitative finance specialization from St. Louis, Missouri. As a high school stu- dent, Jack was look- ing for a premier academic school and one that offered great scholarships. "I was amazed to find that with UA, I could have both," Jack said. "I cannot wait for what is to come in the classroom and how my brothers are going to help me achieve my goals." SigEp was a no-brainer for Jack because it "is full of forward-thinking young men who have exciting futures ahead of them. That is some- thing I have always wanted to be a part of." Cade Pfeifer Cade is an 18-year- old from Nash- ville, Tennessee. Cade was drawn to SigEp because of the Chapter's GPA. "Seeing a fraternity constantly ranked as the highest GPA in IFC really got me interested," Cade said. "Once I got to talk to everyone, I really felt at home and knew I wanted to be a part of this." Studying marketing on the pre-med track, Cade takes his studies very seriously. "The Fraternity helps me stay on track and get my work done," Cade said. Alabama Beta is very excited about welcom- ing all of our new members. We look forward to seeing them grow throughout their time in the Chapter. The three Balanced Man Schol- arship recipients are great additions to the Chapter, and they hope to set a good example for future recruitment classes. Fraternally, Griffin McVeigh '21 THREE NEW MEMBERS RECEIVE BALANCED MAN SCHOLARSHIPS T his fall, 41 new members accepted their bids into Alabama Beta. Similar to past few years, many of our out-of-state members reside in Nashville, St. Louis, or Memphis. Of the 41 members recruited, Jack Adams '22, Jack Callahan '22, and Cade Pfeifer '22 were lucky enough to receive the Balanced Man Scholarship.
