3 CHI OMEGA To Welcome with Open Arms Meet Mu Chapter's House Director, Casie Kolbeck I t is my great pleasure to introduce our new house director and business manager, Casie Kolbeck. Chapter members, advisors, and directors know that our dear Daisy West became engaged to be married and moved to Austin. Her parting gift to all of us was to recommend her friend, Casie, who was happily employed in a different field. Daisy took the time to explain the position and encouraged Casie to consider, then accept, our offer to join our team. Casie arrived to open the doors when the members returned in August, and has worked tirelessly, cheerfully, and effectively ever since. She has innovated several functions already, bonded with our staff and trades people, and she took the initiative recently to invite all the other sorority house directors to tea at Mu chapter. They were so pleased with her hospitality and can now be of support to each other and share resources when a vendor need arises. She holds a B.A. in English, a business administration minor, and was a resident assistant for two years at the University of Denver, her alma mater. She earned an M.A. in publishing, with distinction, at University College, London. She has been in the publishing field ever since, including Quadrille Publishing in the U.K., Chronicle Books, and Callisto Media here in the Bay Area. She has also had been in the banking industry. Her experience includes data analysis, business strategies, account management and reconciliation, internal and external communication, marketing, event and trade show planning, coordination and support to sales departments. The list of accomplishments goes on, but the key factor is that Casie is delightful, with a positive attitude, and enthusiastic about working with the chapter officers and members, our current staff members, the advisors, and house corporation. I asked Casie to share her thoughts at the end of her first semester with us. Here is what she said: "This role has been incredibly serendipitous for me. I don't think I've felt more at home since moving to the Bay Area and I love using all my different skill sets and truly being a Jill-of-all-trades. Plus, I already have enough owl accouterments to fit right in. I could not be more grateful for the wonderful staff of Chi Omega Mu who have been so helpful and gracious as I have learned the house director ropes. From helping to pour infinite glasses of lemonade at recruitment to making sure I get a piece of the always quick-to-disappear dessert option, I can't imagine settling in so quickly without them. I'm also thankful for the corporation and advisory boards who have made me feel so welcome and supported. It's encouraging to see the continuation of sisterhood beyond college and across generations (as well as Pac-12 rivalries)." Loyally, Helen Nicholas, Psi Theta '67 President, Chi Omega Association (510) 504-7986 | hnicholas@apr.com T he philanthropy committee and chapter as a whole were very excited to kick off another semester filled with service! Last semester, we held our annual Frats at Bat event and raised more than $2,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There was plenty of excitement and participation from the entire Greek community to support our event. One of our goals this year was to up the amount of participation in philanthropy events within our own chapter and the Greek community, and Frats at Bat was a huge step taken to accomplish this goal. For the fall semester, we brought back the Wake Up for Wishes Pancake Brunch and Chi O Casino. With all of these events combined we hope to meet our $10,000 threshold to grant a wish. Overall, we are incredibly excited to be giving back to our community. Loyally, Camellia Edalat '18 Philanthropy Chairman Lending a Helping Hand I t is my job to cultivate an environment in which we look forward to seeing each other at the end of the day and try to understand one another on a deeper level than just a friend. In order to do this, I organized events for the chapter at home and other fun locations! Last spring, we successfully had our first sleep- away sisterhood retreat since my freshman year in beautiful Monterey, Calif. There, sisters enjoyed an afternoon around Cannery Row and an evening full of bonding, cookies, movies, and good sisterhood fun! During the semester, my committee and I also hosted weekly movie nights on Fridays for sisters to gather in the chapter room and relax after a hard week of classes and held our annual pumpkin patch trip. We are very excited this upcoming semester to be starting a Mu Book Club and continuing the movie night tradition. I am over the moon to welcome our new member class and show them what our sisterhood is all about! Loyally, Hannah Farrell '16 Director of Sisterhood T hese three incredible Mu Chi Os, Lizzy Rothstein '15, Marie Bartz '14, and Rachael Schuster '14, were selected to go to the Golden State Warriors 2018-19 dance team training camp! Lizzy was chapter president from 2017-18 and was simultaneously Cal dance team co-captain. Rachel also served as vice president for scholarship while on the dance team. Marie, who sings as well as performs on the dance team, has recently served the chapter as a junior advisor in support of our song chairman. We are busting our buttons with pride for these talented, hardworking, and amazing sisters. The Warriors will be lucky to get these Chi Os!
