December 5, 2018 www.DesertMessenger.com 13 Business Chamber's final act helps museum by Joanne Winer The Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce, here since 2003, has now closed its doors for good, and in fact, the building at 110 W. Main St. that was their home for 15 years is now sold to another business. As most people know, when a non-profi t disbands, all outstanding bills must be paid and the remainder of the assets sold or given to another non-profi t, with all the funds also having to be given away to another non-profi t. After paying off everything, selling or giving away the rest, the building sold and everything moved out, the funds remaining came to $2952.00. We were very happy to be able to give a check for this amount to the Quartzsite Historical Society to further the work they do. We had a meeting and discussed all the very worthwhile non-profi ts, and this was the one we chose because they really needed the help to keep the history of this area for people to learn about. We know that they can really use it and are glad to be able to help. We would also like to thank all of our members who supported us over the 15 years, and to all the people who came in to the offi ce for information. It was our pleasure to serve you all and we will miss you all so much. Please be sure to visit the Quartzsite Area Chamber of Com- merce and Tourism for information--they are located right across from McDonald's! On Wednesday night, 7 p.m. there will be dancing at the Quartzsite Improvement Associa- tion (QIA.) "Western Strings", one of the best bands in the area will be playing "for your dancing pleasure." Bob Anderson, who heads up the band, has played warm-up on the Grand Ole Opry, and backed up Charley Pride, Lefty Frizzell and others. Cookie Shannon , the drum- mer, once played drums for Boxcar Willy and she does his famous train whistle. She has played with Jeanie C. Riley and Freddie Hart. Martha McKay says she sang all her life; she was part of a quartet that sang on radio in Redding, California. Western Strings music is very danceable and very "listenable." In- cidentally the group is looking for a bass player. QIA is located at 235 E. Ironwood Ave. Quartzsite. RECYCLE THIS NEWSPAPER thank you!
