Main St. Quartzsite Call Jerry or Josh 206-489-8650 By Joanne Winer The annual spaghetti that usually takes place in November was moved to December 11th due to a schedul- ing confl ict, but unfortunately the dinner will now have to be cancelled for this year and we are hoping to have it in the spring. With Paul still being off with his health issues and some of the volunteers not being able to work on the new date, we de- cided that we would postpone it for now and hopefully once he is back to work it will be rescheduled for sometime in the spring. The funds that would have been raised at this dinner were going to be used in the new Heroes Bell Gar- dens to start working on the monu- ments to honor the military and fi rst responders. We are still planning to have some work sessions this win- ter to get the monuments started and hopefully this area will be ready for a dedication ceremony once the work has been done. Many of the groups who will be honored in this area are planning to have fundrais- ers and work sessions and they will be announced in this paper once the dates are set, and will also be on Facebook, etc. Be sure to check for dates and times and come out to the Gardens and show your support for these wonderful heroes by help- ing to build their monuments, or do some of the landscaping etc. We are looking for people with experience laying cement blocks, cementing rocks, patio stones, and helping to plant trees, bushes and cacti among other things. If you can't do any of the actual work but would still like to be part of this great appreciation area, please come out and you can help set up and serve the luncheons that will be provided for every work session. The more people who can come out to help will really make a difference. There will be a very special dedica- tion ceremony on what is now being declared Quartzsite Heroes Appre- ciation Day, which will be an annual event every fi rst Saturday in March Annual benefit Spaghetti dinner postponed from now on. We will still be having our annual 9/11 ceremony on Sept. 11, but we wanted a day when more people could attend and an event to honor all of the heroes like mili- tary personnel, and fi rst responders like police, fi re dept., search and rescue, etc. and these will all have their insignias on the monuments. So please get involved and show your support by volunteering at the work sessions, or come to help at the fundraisers or just come to the fundraisers---we will be advertising breakfasts, lunches, dinners, bake sales, and any other thing we can think of to get the funds to buy what is needed to put on the monuments (and fl ags, poles, etc.) as well as the materials for landscaping needed. If anyone has any extra cement blocks, patio stones, colored rock, cement mix, etc. that can be used, please take it out to the park dur- ing the work sessions, or call me at 928-927-6551 and we can arrange it to be picked up. We are hoping to have enough done on this area to have the dedication ceremony this coming March, so we can in- vite some special guests from out of town--one of the reasons for this special day since it is so hot on 9/11 the ceremony usually can't go for more than an hour due to the heat and darkness. This way, more groups from out of town can come and participate and be part of this great appreciation for our heroes! FREE CLASSIFIEDS Desert Messenger offers FREE Classifi ed Ads!
