DTD 2 THE CORDELT "Delt is probably one of the most important aspects of my success, both personally and professionally. I think serving as undergraduate president was the single most formative leadership experience I may ever have," Mike said. "Not only did the stories help with my initial interviews, it set me up really well to handle the politics and stress of working for a large company during a relatively difficult time. Whenever it gets crazy at work, I think back to one Delt struggle or another and think, 'If I figured it out back then, how bad can this be?'" Upon graduating from Cornell, Mike moved to Boston, where he lived for seven years until recently relocating to Cincinnati. For each of those seven years, Mike lived with at least one Delt brother. Mike also jumped at the opportunity to become more involved with Delta Tau Delta outside of the relationships he had with his Beta Omicron brothers. One of the most humbling experiences that Mike has had was working as a chapter advisor at Boston University, which was a brand new colony when he got on board. Mike then served as the Delta Tau Delta Eastern Division treasurer and was the lead advisor for the Iota Psi chapter at Northeastern, which won a Hugh Shields award in 2018. He has also remained involved with Beta Omicron as a House Corporation trustee and as the chairman of the chapter's 125th anniversary planning committee. "That really drove home to me that the fraternity is much bigger than just Beta Omicron, and that Delt values really tie the brothers across not only generations, but also across the country," Mike said. Mike has broadened his bonds with his Delt brothers with annual vacations, which have included places such as London and San Francisco. Even with moving to Cincinnati, he has still crossed paths with fellow Cornell Delts. "One of the coolest and most satisfying parts of my job is actually a crossover with Delt. Alex Nestle '13 is a Navy pilot who flies MH-60 Seahawks powered by GE engines," Mike said. "He relies on GE every day to help him execute his mission and defend the United States of America, which is incredibly humbling and really motivates me to go into the office every day." Homecoming has been one of Mike's favorite events to reconnect with several generations of Delts in one setting. He would love to hear updates from other Beta Omicron brothers. (Continued from page 1) H omecoming at the Shelter is always a time for brothers young and old to gather and share stories, memories, and just catch up. This year was no exception. I would like to first thank the undergraduates for inviting us back with open arms and for hosting another spectacular Homecoming. A special thanks to Justin Kim '19, who orchestrated it all flawlessly for a second year in a row. The kitchen crew, led by Marty Barrack '83, prepared a delicious beef dish. I would personally like to thank Marty, as this was his last year as meal planner/cat wrangler of the kitchen crew. Had it not been for his willingness 16 years ago to start cooking the Homecoming dinner at the Shelter, we would not have this annual event that we have all come to know and love. I would also like to thank Richard Schrade '82 for his part in helping to organize every Homecoming meal over the past 16 years and for being the biggest cheerleader for the importance of having Homecoming at the Shelter. Richard has decided to pass the baton to Chris Litvin '05 beginning with Homecoming 2019. We are all glad that the tradition will live on and be in good hands. I was also honored to sit with Larry Hitchon '54 during dinner. This was Larry's first trip back to Delt since he graduated 64 years ago. It was truly remarkable to hear the stories and see photos from his time on The Hill. One of the most amazing things to me was that Larry had never been to the Shelter at 104 Mary Ann Wood Drive (formerly 1 Campus Road) and had only ever known 110 Edgemoor. However, because of the bond of Delt, Larry did not feel that this was a foreign venue, but instead treated the Shelter as if it had been the one he had spent time living in all those years ago. This is what makes Beta Omicron great, and I hope that we see more and more alumni from all generations make the pilgrimage back to the Shelter in the years to come. Fraternally, Graham Seward '07 House Corporation President graham.seward@gmail.com Happy Times Had by All at Homecoming Gregory Struble '18, Nathan Goldberg '18, and Alex Chong '19 gathered with friends for Homecoming.
