The Ivy 2 BETA BETA ALUMNA RECOGNIZED AS NOTABLE WOMAN IN FINANCE Courtney Hoeft Lowman '95 Finds Career Success Through Alpha Phi D eveloping a strong support group and network of friends can be a factor in major life decisions, such as joining a sorority. The appeal of such a network motivated Courtney Hoeft Lowman '95 to pledge Beta Beta as a Michigan State freshman. "Alpha Phi has a great reputation and deep history of excellence," she says. "The campus connection, personal growth, social initiatives, and philanthropy are all major strengths." These values helped pave the way to Courtney's successful career in finance and treasury, including major strides in women's empowerment. "Alpha Phi not only expanded my network of friends," Courtney recalls, "it also provided several leadership opportunities." Living in the Beta Beta house, she served as both recruitment counselor and VP of development; she also attended a leadership summit in St. Louis. Courtney and her sisters made wonderful memories living in the house. "Some of my most treasured times are the lazy Sundays—the house was quiet, and the girls who were around would find random adventures. Although we no longer live close, a handful of my dearest friends get together each year and stay in constant touch! This network is precious, and I hold those bonds dearly." After graduating from MSU with a bachelor's in finance, Courtney was swiftly recruited by the Federal Reserve of Chicago. She worked there for three years, later moving on to General Motors, and now Ally Bank in Detroit, Mich., where she is the executive director of finance. In this position, Courtney was recognized in Crain's Detroit Business' "2018 Notable Women in Finance" for her role in company savings and negotiations, as well as her devotion to a positive company culture and her work with local charities and nonprofits. She also heads several recruiting and development initiatives at Ally that focus on women's professional development, relentlessly pursuing diversity and inclusion, community outreach, and much more. "Alpha Phi instilled all of these foundational elements for me, including philanthropy." Courtney often visits East Lansing to see football games and lacrosse tournaments and recruit young talent for Ally Bank. While there, she loves to visit the chapter house with her three daughters. "It not only brings back great memories, but my girls light up with the idea of living in an all-girl house!" She is also continually impressed with the modernized house and the women who live there. "The young ladies in the house continue to have such passion about Alpha Phi and their home away from home." To fellow alumnae, Courtney encourages becoming involved with Beta Beta by visiting the house when possible. "Spend some time with the young ladies and give back by sharing your continued journey. They look to that shared connection with each of you, and you might make a difference in their future success." Courtney lives in Birmingham, Mich., with her husband, Pat (a Delta Chi MSU alumnus), and their daughters. They stay busy with the girls' activities and love to travel and visit with family and friends. You can connect with Courtney at courtney.lowman@ally.com.
