S ervice to others has always played a large role in the life of Andy Seibert '08, and finding a community that sup- ported this calling was crucial. When he attended a service learn- ing event hosted by Beta Zeta, Andy felt further connected to his calling and their brotherhood. "What first struck me was the quality of men in the chapter and their commitment to Delt ideals. The values of the chapter were clearly built on the same values that are still a part of my personal life. That piece of my experience plus the friend- ships I gained are two ways Beta Zeta has been instrumental to me." Hearing about the chapter's numerous achieve- ments today brings back a sense of tremendous pride. Beta Zeta has maintained their member- ship quality with servant leaders, campus in- volvement, academic excellence, and overall gregariousness. Andy remembers how these qualities were instrumental during his under- graduate years as he explored his own calling to leadership. "When I ran as student body president, I had tremendous support from Beta Zeta and would not have been as successful without them." Due to this valuable support system, Andy ad- vises undergraduate members to maximize their experience. "You have to balance studies and social aspects, but participate in Delt events as much as possible. Take the values of humility and service that our fraternity is all about and figure out how that connects you with brothers from all generations." Even for alumni who have lost touch with Beta Zeta, they can find ways to make the most of their Delt experience. "The num- ber one way I suggest reconnect- ing is by reaching out to friends, whether it's a text message, phone call, or a visit. Even visit- ing campus is a great way to stay in touch. You will never regret it because it always exceed expec- tations." Reminiscing about fond memo- ries from undergraduate years or catching up on personal achievements, alumni will always have a direct back to their Delt roots. For Andy, these connections have allowed him to become the man he is today in three ways: 1. "The experience of being surrounded by high-quality men that worked diligently, cared deeply about academics, and believed in more than just the social aspect of college strengthened my own convictions and continues to do so. 2. "Delt is a springboard by which you can broaden your impact in the Butler community and outside of campus. Fraternal values are the key to this foundation and provide meaning. 3. "Being affiliated with an organizationn that promotes core values influences your future. Humility and service are still instrumental to me now and I attribute my Delt experience to being a large part of who I am." LEADING A LIFE OF SERVICE How Andy Seibert '08 Exemplifies the Core Values "Being affiliated with an organization that promotes core values influences your future. Humility and service are still instrumental to me now and I attribute my Delt experience to being a large part of who I am." The Brotherhood Sustains Us Why Clayton Callahan '88 Remains True to Beta Zeta's Teachings W hen Clayton Callahan '88 arrived at Butler University, his first goals were to become more involved on campus and find friends that he could both learn from and grow with. Recruit- ment became the perfect opportu- nity to scope out a community that would support these endeavors. Ultimately, this led Clay to the Beta Zeta brotherhood. "I noticed the camaraderie and how the existing members interacted with each other in a positive way. Good character was easy to discern, and I have never regretted a day since accepting the invitation into the Beta Zeta brother- hood. I am truly thankful." TRUTH While an undergraduate member, Clay quickly understood the importance of his brothers' support and what Beta Zeta could offer him. He trusted his brothers to lead him down the Delt path and sought to provide the same experience for future members. "At some point we are all on the new mem- ber/active continuum in our personal expe- riences, professional careers, and Christian walk. It is by being mentors to others and building them up in a positive manner that we as a society truly improve and advance." FAITH Clay still carries these lessons his mentors instilled in him and encourages alumni and active members alike to remember the Delt teachings. "To have a successful un- dergraduate experience, alumni career, and fulfilling life, I suggest we strive to fol- low the crest, which our Founding Fathers established: living a life of truth, know- ing when to be powerful, always staying strong in the Christian faith, and embrac- ing courage. By living in this manner and working diligently with focus and effort, we will realize success." (Continued on page 4)
