The Winstan "Bud" Sellick Young Alumni Achievement Award is presented for out- standing early career accom- plishments in any field. Our recipient served as the New Member educator for our 2007 new member class and upon graduation in 2007 ac- cepted his commission in the Marine Corps. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commen- dation Medal, Navy and Ma- rine Corps Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. As one of his recommenders noted, "As platoon commander, he was responsible for 40 enlisted Marines who would be looking to his leadership to guide them through the deploy- ment that would be defined by grit and hardship. He jumped in and assumed his duties without missing a beat. When he arrived in Afghanistan he organized his unit in an effective and resourceful manner. Trusted by his commander to think and operate independently, his creative decision-making en- sured his platoon could successfully train and improve the skills of the Delaram Afghan National Police. Notably, his calm demeanor and skilled leadership under fire ensured all his Marines returned home." This year's Winstan "Bud" Sellick Young Alumni Achievement Award winner was Matt Carwile '07. This nominee served as president on his executive board during his undergraduate years. He was noted by one of his recommenders by the fol- lowing, "His most generous offering to Delt came when Beta Zeta was in need of a Chapter Advisor in 2016. At the time, he had recently been married, bought a house, and made a ca- reer change from being a High School Principal to opening a new office in Indianapolis for his family's insurance agency. He took up the challenge for two years. Under his leadership, Beta Zeta earned numerous national awards, initiated a re- cord number of new members in 2017 and increased TRIKE fundraising."
