NWA Democrat-Gazette Best of the Best 62 Friday, October 29, 2016 FINALIST Assisted Living nwadg.com/best THE MEADOWS Special to NWA Democrat-Gazette T he Meadows Independent and Assisted Living's motto is, "Our family caring for your family with honor, dignity, and respect," and that's ex- actly what they do. The facility is family owned and operated, therefore the residents are treated like family. "It has everything you could ever need for easy living; family taking care of family," said Leroy Miller, a resident of The Meadows since 2007. "You are always treated like family," said resident Verna Menard. The Meadows is a licensed Level II Assisted Living community with a unique setup. Level II licensing is held throughout the entire building, allowing residents to grow in place and adding services beyond the basic package, as needed. Services such as full medication administration, bathing, personal laundry service, assistance with per- sonal hygiene, dressing, incontinence assistance and/or health maintenance support can be added. The Meadows has a nurse on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They hire Certifi ed Nursing Assis- tants only to care for their residents in whatever services needed, as is appropriate for assisted living. The Meadows employs a Life Enrichment Coordinator to provide activi- ties and opportunities for the residents to interact with other residents and the outside community. They attend concerts, go to Northwest Arkansas Naturals baseball games, participate in Wii bowling tournaments, create arts and crafts, have Canasta groups, meals out in local restaurants, cooking classes, exercises classes, trips to lo- cal stores and many other activities. Aside from the fi ve-star care it offers, The Meadows also prides itself on being more like a fi ve-star hotel rath- er than a medical facility. The community has 65 private apartments with fl oor plans ranging from studio to a large, two-bedroom apartment. Each has modern kitchen appli- ances, window treatments, carpet and individual climate controls. The facility has a full kitchen staff that prepares and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. The Meadows also has a licensed Alzheimer's wing. This specialized memory care wing offers additional structure and safety features for residents with progressed dementia or Alzheimer's. Residents are offered the best quality of life within a secure, home-like environment. The 10-unit, private apartment wing has a patio, dining room, activity area and family room, as well as a high staff-to- resident ratio. The Meadows is committed to providing an excep- tional training program that increases caregiver compe- tency and quality of care for their residents. Earlier this year, they contracted with The Institute for Professional Care Education to provide excellent online education and additional certifi cations for the employee who wants to go above and beyond the basic education required by the state regulations. All of the education and extra certifi ca- tions are provided free to the employees. The Meadows is located in Bentonville at 2300 SE 28th Street.
