Library programs This time of year, sometimes it's just not so easy to be grateful. I'm fully aware that our world is full of anger, frustration and fear. Fo- cusing on fear breeds more of the same. However, Gratitude and Peace of Mind breeds more of the same, also. So let's choose wisely. Many of us in America have so much to be grateful for. Even in our own small community, folks in need can receive help from our local food bank, thrift stores, and churches. Generosity feeds our souls, fi lling up those dark crevices created from our pain of suffering. Those who give of themselves with time, money and energy also need to recharge themselves, to be able to continue giving, so let's support and thank our volunteers. In many Native American cultures, what matters is not what someone has but what the person is able to give away to others. Almost every ceremony includes a giveaway of some sort. At one ceremony I at- tended, one family cooks the feast for hundreds of people, and they are so excited to share. You can almost taste their Gratitude in the delicious meal. I have witnessed that same pow- erful Gratitude help heal those in crisis - When you create a list of things you're grateful for, your at- titude makes a notable shift. With so much change upon our world, giving into fear is not an option. Having an attitude of Gratitude re- ally does instantly change our per- seption of life around us. Gratitude is actually a shortcut to fi nding peace of mind. There's al- ways be something to be angry or sad about, but if we let it run our lives, we lose out on all the joy of being alive! Count your blessings, enjoy family and friends, and share your bounty with others. There's many fundraisers for the Food Bank in the next month. Get out there and enjoy them. Remember, focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy happens while giving.
