(QIA) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The doors will open at 4:30 pm so you can enjoy the mu- sic while waiting to be served. The proceeds from the dinner this year will go to buy the materials needed to get the monuments started in the new Heroes Bell Gardens section of the Gardens. The cost of the dinner is still only $5.00 per person, and includes salad, garlic bread, spa- ghetti with meat sauce (marinara available upon request). We have been so grateful for all the prayers and well wishes that have been coming for the past 10 months since Paul has been unable to work and be in the bookstore. We want people to know that he is slowly getting back on his feet and is determined to get back to play- ing his music--especially since our friend Steve, the guitar player and songwriter, built a nice stage at the bookstore after I packed and moved over 400 boxes of books and moved everything out of the east end of the store to put in the stage and chairs. Paul has his own music hall, where he can play any time and plans to do so now that he is getting better. The monuments that we are build- ing in the Heroes Bell Gardens in Celia's Rainbow Gardens will be to honor the sacrifi ces and dedication of those men and women who put their lives on the line for us every time they go to work. They deserve to be remembered if they have paid the ultimate price, and the people who are still in harm's way every day deserve our deepest thanks for what they do. These include the military, law enforcement, fi re, search and rescue, other fi rst responders and also one to remember 9-11 and all who lost their lives then. We are looking for volunteers for the spaghetti dinner to help serve and bus tables etc. If you have time and would be able to come to the Q.I.A. on Dec. 11th we could sure use your help--just call me at 928- 927-6551 if you can be part of the crew. We are planning music for this event, and hopefully Paul will be well enough to play for us too. We are also looking for volunteers who can come out to the park for our work sessions that we will be planning for this winter. If we get enough volun- teers we can do a lot!!! I will provide a luncheon on each work day for those who come to help. The days will be an- nounced in this newspaper and posters, and be sure to check on Facebook, too. Look for announcements about up- coming fundraisers for these groups that are going to help build their own monuments and help raise the funds for all they want on them. Annual Spaghetti Dinner benefit for Celia's Rainbow Gardens planned Blood Drive Monday Nov.12th – The start time was changed from earlier communications from 10:00 am to 11:00 am due to staff issues GFWC Quartzsite Woman's Club is sponsoring a Blood Drive on Mon- day November 12th 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Community Center. United Blood Services has been rebranded to Vitalant. Schedule your appointment to give blood at www.bloodhero.com and enter code Quartzsite or call 877- 25-VITAL (877-258-4825). Please bring your photo ID and donor card. Free cholesterol testing with every donation. Find the Hero in You and schedule your appointment. Remind- er of a change - if you had a tattoo done in a parlor in AZ you only need to wait until the tattoo heals to be able to donate you can donate. One unit of blood that is donated, can provide for 3 blood transfusions, so, in essence, you are helping 3 patients with your one unit (approximately 1 pint) of blood. It is estimated that 80% of the US population will need a blood trans- fusion in their lifetime. The blood you donate at your blood drive is tested, processed and delivered back into our local community hospitals to provide for surgery and chemotherapy patients, people who have blood disorders, new- born babies, expectant mothers and - of course - traumatic situations, such as accidents, shootings, etc. Several factors affect our community blood bank's supply of blood for hos- pital patients: 1. Donors have moved away or are traveling or working and are unavail- able to donate in their communities 2. Many donors are deferred due to low iron, dehydration, high or low blood pressure, medications, elevated pulse rate, blood disorders (anemia), or have traveled to restricted areas outside of the United States 3. Apathy - "some one else will do- nate, so I don't need to" 4. People assume that they are not eligible to donate due to age or health issues. For instance, diabetes does not always defer an individual from donating. Donor requirements: 1. Donors must be at least 17 years of age - ??? (no age limit) and in good health. 2. YOU MUST BRING A PICTURE ID WITH FIRST AND LAST NAME TO THE BLOOD DRIVE 3. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds (height and weight restric- tions pertain to donors between the age of 17-22. 4. Tattoos done outside of a parlor in AZ must be at least one year old 5. Donors must wait 56 days after their last donation before they are eli- gible to donate for a single donation 6. Donors, who gave a double, must wait 112 days after their last donation before they are eligible to donate 7. Expectant mothers cannot donate 8. Donors must be in good health i.e., no cold, fl u or fl u like symptoms 9. Surgery patients are also temporar- ily deferred from donating (Call (1- 877-827-4376 for specifi c information on the wait time between donations.)
