FALL 2018 The Squirrel's Nest P S I C H A P T E R O F A L P H A G A M M A D E L T A A T T H E U N I V E R S I T Y O F A L A B A M A Vice Presidents of Recruitment Mary Kathryn Fort '15 and Ali Carden '15. A fun surprise at Lake Tuscaloosa for our members during polish week, complete with treats and music! New members Cam Shields '18 and Leah Varnell '18 cheering on the Crimson Tide. T he end of the spring 2018 semester finished on a phenomenal note for Psi Chapter. We ranked second overall throughout all Alabama Panhellenic chapters with a 3.63 GPA. We had 135 members make the President's List, followed by 153 members making the Dean's List. The time and dedication our Vice President of Scholarship, Alyssa Barefield '15, put into academic support and tutoring opportunities for our members has truly made a lasting impression on the success of our chapter. This summer, Alpha Gamma Delta celebrated its 50th Golden Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Anna Thigpen '16 and I had the privilege to travel to the Convention on behalf of Psi Chapter this year. The Convention allowed us to celebrate sisterhood, embrace traditions, and learn how the fraternity is moving forward to fulfill our Purpose. In addition, we were given the opportunity to attend the Feast of Roses, Honors of Epsilon Pi Banquet, and participate in valuable leadership trainings and professional development sessions. We were pleased to receive the Circle of Excellence Award, Recruitment Excellence Honors, Rose Bowl Honors, and to be named a Jewel Society Chapter. These awards celebrate the hard work and determination of our members. Please read more about the awards on page 4. Fall 2018 recruitment was led by Vice Presidents of Recruitment Mary Katherine Fort '15 and Ali Carden '15. We kicked off the week by packing more than 250 backpacks with various snacks to be donated to a local school, dedicating time to give back to the local Tuscaloosa community. The initiative was headed by our Philanthropy Vice President, Maddie Bryan '16. At the end of Polish Week, we surprised our members with an afternoon of swimming at Lake Tuscaloosa, Steel City Popsicles, and even a DJ. The recruitment team and chapter's perseverance was rewarded as we welcomed 113 outstanding new members on Bid Day 2018. Our members have loved the time we have been able to spend with the new members from our new member retreat to pledge class bowling nights "The Best Just Got Better." Our chapter is enthusiastic for another great season cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. This season we are thrilled to have received our very own reserved seating block for the members of our chapter Bryant-Denny Stadium. In addition to the games, we will continue to give back to the community behind the scenes with our Fifth Quarter Initiative, saving, repacking, and distributing food from home football games. As the fall semester continues we are looking forward to Homecoming, Initiation ceremonies for the new members and the Feast of Roses Ceremony. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as Psi Chapter president this past year. Thank you for the love and support!
