p. 3 SIGMA PHI EPSILON Bevo handler Clayton Helbing '19 at the Spring Game in Austin. T hroughout the spring semester and summer, the men, alumni, and parents of Texas Alpha have made great strides to ensure the continued tradition of greatness of our chapter and we could not be more thrilled for the fall. Academics Remain Top Priority Last semester, we displayed continued excellence in academics, the number one priority for Texas Alpha. Our cumulative GPA of 3.31 ranks as one of the highest of all fraternities on campus and third among chapters with similar manpower. We have retained our two Forty Acre Scholars for their senior years, and therefore are still the only student organization at UT with more than one. Aer over a year of hard work and drastic improvements, we have received accreditation as a Residential Learning Community through the nation- al fraternity, and we have continued the Balanced Man Lectureship Series with much success. Striving to Serve Others Texas Alpha continues to excel with regard to philanthropy. Last semester members contributed to the community by serving over 1,000 hours with organizations such as the Zavala Aer-School Program (ZAP). At ZAP, vol- unteers assist Zavala Elementary students in schoolwork and games. Along with the Chi Omega chapter at UT, we collaborated with Outdoor Voices, an Austin-based athletic wear company, and raised over $5,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Austin. At our annual dodgeball tournament, the chapter raised over $10,000 for the Grace Loncar Foundation, which raises aware- ness and stimulates discussion about young-adult suicide and prevention. Heavy On-Campus Involvement Deep involvement and leadership on campus is one of the proxies we can use to measure the strength of the Texas Alpha Chapter. Members serve in campus organizations including: president of Undergraduate Real Estate Society, president and other officers of University Investors Association, president of ZAP, VP of Texas Energy Manage- ment Student Association, VP of National Organi- zation for Business and Engineering, VP of DECA, officers for Phi Gamma Nu Business Fraternity, and officers for the UT Interfraternity Council. We also have maintained heavy involvement with Texas Cowboys and Silver Spurs, including one Bevo handler in Silver Spurs. Tailgate with Texas Alpha is fall will be packed with Texas Football games and tailgates. Alumni and parents are encouraged to join us for all of the tailgates at the house and on campus. We will have tailgates versus West Virginia – Parents Weekend (TBD), and Iowa St. – an- nual alumni tailgate at LBJ Lawn (TBD). Chapter House Receives Summer Renovation Finally, this summer, we were fortunate to have major house renovations. We had the floors retiled, the baseboards painted white to brighten up the house, and we installed new tables and chairs in the dining hall. All of the members are excited about these upgrades, and look forward to using them throughout their time as members of Texas Alpha. We sincerely thank the alumni for generous donations and all of the alumni, parents, and members that contributed time and energy to make these renovations possible. Please reach out to me with any suggestions and questions that may be on your mind, and I look forward to seeing y'all this fall at tailgates.
