8A – Daily News – Friday, May 14, 2010 Fly fishing expo caters to survivors of breast cancer Corning — Adventurous women will gather for the second annual Fly Girls Casting for Recovery Event on Saturday, May 22, at Rolling Hills Casino Resort in Corning. This event is all about resilient living and celebrating sisterhood for women whose lives have been challenged by breast cancer. Funds raised through the Fly Girls event will benefit the non-profit organization Casting for Recov- ery. Fly Girls will cast-off with reg- istration at the Carlino’s Event Center in Rolling Hills Casino at 9 a.m. followed by a Fly Girls Tie It On Breakfast where attendees will network over mimosas and a scrumptious morning meal cour- tesy of St. Elizabeth’s Community Hospital. Next, is the Line on the Day, a series of fun-and-informative workshops focusing on everything from fly fishing instruction (taught by the Casting for Recovery team) to learning to tie flies with the help of Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers plus more fly fishing tips from local guides courtesy of Chico Area Flyfishers Club. Since attendees will not catch fish at the indoor event, for those interested two days have been set aside, June 5 or 6, for an outdoor, one-on-one fly fishing lesson pro- vided by Chico Area Flyfishers, Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers or Clear Creek Sports Club. While at the Fly Girls event, those who want to learn about a second health-enhancing sport, golf, will have a chance to meet PGA and LPGA teaching pros sharing news about the upcoming Girls Club Clinic and other Play Golf America initiatives offered in June at the resort’s nationally- ranked Sevillano Links, in con- junction with American Express Women’s Golf Month. Because women care about wardrobe too, during the Fly Girls event attendees will have an opportunity to try on fly fishing gear plus visit an array of bou- tiques with fly-fishing, golf, gym and leisure wear, fashion acces- sories, jewelry, cosmetics, wines & gourmet food products. The day will culminate with a Fly Girls: Celebrate Life with Lunch and Laughter. “Last year we had a very posi- tive response from participants as well as from our supporting ven- dors and sponsors, so it seemed only natural that we host another Fly Girls celebration this year,” Event Co-founder and Rolling Hills Director of Marketing Kate Grissom said. “Our goal is to con- tinue to introduce women to new sports in a comfortable, social set- ting where sisterhood and spirit prevail, while also raising funds for a worthy cause such as Casting for Recovery.” Event tickets are $55 and include indoor fly fishing clinics (plus a future outdoor fly flying lesson), on-site boutique experi- ence, meals, entertainment, and a special Fly Girls gift. Tickets are available at http://tickets.ticket- force.com. For more event infor- mation call (877) 840-0457. Casting for Recovery is a non- profit support and education pro- gram for women who have or have had breast cancer. To learn more visit http://www.castingfor- recovery.org/.
