Lady Spartans, Cougars end bout with draw Sunday's games By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor NFL San Francisco Red Bluff High senior Rachel Ward kicks a ball against Foothill during the second half Friday night at Red Bluff High School. The Red Bluff and Foothill girls soccer teams, both jostling for the top spot in the Sac River League, came into Friday night's matchup at Spartans Stadium with identical records — and left the same way. With seconds to go in the match and the Lady Spartans holding on to a 1-0 lead, the Cougars gained possession in Red Bluff territory, where senior Brooke Gaddy made a nice cross to the box for Alyssa Leffler, who kicked the ball into the right side of the net to beat the whistle. The Spartans (7-2-2, 4-12 SRL), for all intents and purposes, were controlling the match from the start, but a flurry of missed opportunities near the end of the first MOTORSPORTS HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL FOX Atlanta Noon Baltimore New England CBS 3:30 p.m. NHL San Jose CSNB Calgary 3 p.m. Monday's games NBA Los Angeles CSNB Warriors 1 p.m. Kings New Orleans CSNC half had both teams scoreless going to the second. The Spartans finally capitalized when senior striker Riley Graham handled a nice through ball into Foothill territory, beat the keeper and kicked the ball into an empty net in the 21st minute of the second half to take a 1-0 lead. Red Bluff had a scare near the end of the match when Graham, the Spartans' leading goal scorer, awkwardly fell after her left foot locked into the turf. She exited the pitch on her own power. Red Bluff beat Foothill (7-2-2, 4-1-2 SRL) 4-2 in December and meet again Feb. 6. Up next for Red Bluff is a home game against West Valley at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
